Tuesday after school (afternoon)

I arrive at Ivy's house at 4:00. Lady Stina lets me in and points me to Ivy's room. Ivy is measuring some fabric when I come in.

"Hey," I say. She's so distracted that she didn't even notice me come in.

"Hm?" She lifts her head like she's going to turn around, but her eyes are still glued to the fabric.

I stand there awkwardly and after a moment she turns around.

"Hey!" She replies. She was doing it again. Her hair was a beautiful mess of loose ties and stray hairs, her eyes were glowing navy blue in the sun, and she was smiling big. She was glowing like a gem. I smiled back.

"Okay," she said, ending the moment. "I already had your measurements taken, so I started on your outfit. She bends down to get something from deep inside a big cupboard. She pulls out a navy blue hood and hands it to me.

I put it over my head. The fabric is soft like a tunic, the hood covers my face, but allows me to see. The bottom half reached my shoulders and cut off there.

"Wow, it's actually really nice." She smiled at my reply.

"Okay good, because that took a lot of time. Are you sure it's completely comfortable? Try moving around with it." I bend my head in a variety of different ways, then walk around in it. She studies me very closely.

"Uh, the hood seems a bit thin. I feel like it would be easy to rip." I say. She takes the hood off of my head and gets back to work on it.

I watch her as she moves cloth over her table and stitches fabric together. A piece of cloth falls to the floor. I bend down to pick it up, as does Ivy. We both freeze, hands on the fabric. I turn my head up and Ivy is right in front of me, our faces just an inch apart. My heart is beating fast. We are looking into each other's eyes, still frozen. My heart goes faster, faster.

I glance at her lips, and that was my big accident. Ivy grips the fabric hard. She gets up and throws it onto the table. She starts fumbling around with her materials, but I don't know what she's doing anymore. I don't think she even knows what she's doing.

"What was that?" I ask. I thought she was finally going to be nice.

She turns around with an angry and slightly surprised expression.

"I don't need you in my life. I don't need you or your dumb friends. Why did I ever agree to join your Pack!" She turns back around.

"My friends are not dumb!" Now I'm shouting.

"You're so dumb you believe that!"

"You're the dumb one! I can't believe I ever thought you could be nice!"

Ivy takes a step back. I went too far.

"Ivy, I-"

Ivy slits her eyes and points to the door. "Get out."

"Please I-"

"Out!"

I pause, then leave her room. Ivy slams the door behind me. I come out to see two stunned parents. I freeze for a moment. They must've heard the whole thing.

"Thank you for inviting me into your home, I'll just be leaving now," I say quickly as I hurry past them and out the door. I take a deep breath and light leap back home.
