Thursday after school

Pack Valient is meeting at Archwire, Darren and Maxine's house, in about five minutes. In my backpack, I place in the Pack Valiant notebook, a pen, and my Multispecial textbook in case my parents get suspicious.

Soft paws pad across my table. Though she was a stolen animal, Reese seemed to love me. A deep purr emitted from her as I swung the bag around my shoulder. I bent to be face level with her.

"You're my favorite, Reese," I tell her in a baby voice and give her a kiss on the head.

"Come on, Scarlett, we're going to be late!" Jordan says from downstairs.

"Coming!" I reply, running down the steps. We had told our parents that we're going to a study group for midterms. Technically, we are still going to study, just more about a strategy to defeat the Neverseen than Multispecial Studies.

Me and Jordan grab our leaping crystals and leep to Archwire for the Pack Valiant meeting.

Upon our arrival, Ivy greeted me with an energetic hug.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Ivy says in a peppy voice. "I'm sorry I couldn't meet you after the battle, since I was at Arian's, but I couldn't be more grateful. I mean, you guys were so powerful."

"You're welcome, Ivy," I reply as she releases me from her embrace.

While entering Darren's room, I see Alvia sitting in a spinny chair, Ellie and Maxine sprawled on the floor and Darren sitting on his bed with Arian.

"Hey y'all!" Alvia says, as she continues to spin on the chair. Jordan and I smile and take a seat on the floor next to each other. Ivy takes a seat next to Arian.

"Okay," Darren addresses us. "So yesterday's battle went, frankly, better than expected. We got our target-" He says, glancing at Ivy, "And no one got extremely hurt. However, there is always room for improvement."

Knowing that I had borrowed the notebook, I took it out of my backpack and handed it to Jordan.

"Okay, the discussion is open, let the meeting commence!" Darren said in a powerful, leader-like voice. Alvia was the first to speak.

"Maybe we can make a plan where I don't have to push a 6 foot guy away from my sister? Just an idea." Her voice was sarcastic, but everyone knew just how scary that incident was.

"Can you maybe elaborate on that?" Darren replies, in a matched sarcastic tone.

"Well, I don't know. When some elves use their ability, they're vulnerable to other external forces. For example, when Ellie was inflicting, she was vulnerable to shadowman just coming up and, well, killing her. Maybe we could have defenders surround certain people when they are using their ability."

I saw Jordan quickly jotting down the ideas as Alvia spoke.

"I really think that we could improve on that as well. Maybe we can choose those individuals in his meeting." Darren agrees. Maxine speaks next.

"This isn't relevant to problems, but rather a warning. The man from the Neverseen, he had pale blue eyes, dark brown hair, and is a charger. There is only one other known charger in the Lost Cities, and that's a councilor, so there is no way they can be related. All I'm saying is, this Gisela lady has more agents than we think, and they are powerful. We have to be ready for anything, from a mesmer to... maybe another pyrokinetic."

My head snaps up. Another pyrokinetic. The revelation of another charger hadn't really sunk in until Maxine pointed it out. I mean it wasn't completely out of this world that the Neverseen has a pyrokinetic too. Imagine meeting one. Another person just like you, besides Maxine's mom. I shook my head to stay focused. And then it hit me. Someone else in the Lost Cities has pale blue eyes, and her name is Vienna Lain.
