After the little funeral for Evelyn, Derek, Talulah, Dylan and Scott set out to find Boyd and Cora, before they hurt someone.
However, the two Betas had a huge head start and were very fast that even Talulah's and Dylan's vampire speed struggled to keep up.
The family stopped at the entrance to the preserve, having lost Boyd trail.

Derek pulled out his phone and called Scott. "Did you find them?" He asked once the younger Beta answered, who was already in the preserve. "I found Boyd, but then I lost him" They heard Scott answer. "You lost him?" Dylan questions, disbelieved. "Yeah, I kinda had to" Scott replies. "Wasn't exactly the plan" Derek huffed in frustration. "I know, guys. That's why I think the four of us should stick together. Trust me, he's too strong, too fast and way too angry for one person to handle. We've got to do this together" Scott tells them. "Look, we're at the trails by the entrance to the preserve. Can you meet us here?" Derek asks him. "Yeah, I... I just have to drop off something, first" The Beta replies and hangs up.
