I wake up in my cell bed.
"What the heck?" I say to myself. Suddenly, Carl pops his head in and says, "You fell asleep on watch so I brought you here to sleep. I kept watch." He smirks at me. The smirk that would make any teenage girl in a zombie-apocalypse drop.
"Crap. Carl I'm so sorry." I say putting my head in my hands.
"No, don't be sorry. It was your second day at the prison. You were tired. I get it." He says laughing. All of sudden, we hear gunshots. Of course. Better prepare myself for the worst.
"Stay here." Carl says with a serious look.
"No! I'm coming with!" I say. He just nods and gestures for me to stay behind him. I can't even shoot a gun. What am I doing? We walk outside and there are men in trucks driving up to the fences with guns.
"It's the governor." Carl says with an angry expression.
"Who?" I ask confused.
"He wants the prison. He's attacked us before. Get ready to fight." He says.*Carl's pov*
That idiot with one eye has come to fight again, but we're ready. The whole group comes out of the prison with guns. The governor smashes through our main gate with his trucks and they all start shooting. A bullet flies past me, barely missing my face. I turn around to find Cassie on the ground bleeding out. God. I told her to stay right behind me!
"Hershel!" I scream. Hershel comes over and yells at me to carry her inside. She can't die. She just got here. I look at her already pale face. I want to see her blue eyes. And her bright, wide smile. I lay her on one of the beds in a cell and Hershel gets to work. She got shot in her side; near her ribs.
"Carl! I don't want you to see this! Go!" Hershel says to me. I leave the cell in complete shock. I lean against the cement wall for support. She just got here. She thought it was safe. We told her it was safe. I thought it was safe. Suddenly, a gunshot snaps me back to my senses. We had a fight and I was going to kill that one-eyed jerk, even if it's the last thing I do. I grab my gun and sprint outside. I shoot at anyone I see that isn't on our side.
"Where's Cassie?!" My dad screams to me.
"She got shot!" I yell back, still shooting. I can't let the emotions hit yet. It could throw off my shot. Finally, the governor must have given up. He and his men drove off. Or they're just re-grouping.
"Carl!" I hear Hershel yell from inside. I run as fast as I can to her cell. Here comes the emotions.
"She's struggling and I don't know if she's going to make it. I'm sorry. I got the bullet out of her, but she lost a lot of blood." He says putting a hand on my shoulder. I'm shocked. The girl that I'm beginning to fall for is dying. I really think I'm falling for her. Falling for her. Yeah, well, I just landed on a cement floor that's in between Cassie and me. I know we just met and we're young, living in an apocalypse, but I'm falling for Cassie. I'm snapped out of my thoughts when I hear Cassie's screams.
"She's awake, but she's having a panic attack." Hershel says. I run in there and try to help calm her down.
"Carl!!" Cassie screams. Why would she be yelling my name? Becca comes running into the room. The one person that Cassie would just love to see right now.
"You need to leave!" I yell to her. She looks confused, but she listens.
"Cass. I'm right here. You're okay. Just breathe." I say in a calm voice. I take her hand in mine hoping it will help. Her eyes are darting back and forth and her breathing is rapid. She still won't stop panicking. I could kiss her. I saw it in this movie once. Cheesy, but it could work. I don't know what I was thinking, but I'm going to do it. I lean in and kiss her. Her breathing starts slowing down and she stops thrashing and kicking. I pull away from the kiss and she's unconscious again. I completely forgot Hershel was behind me.
"Thank you." He says smiling. What have I done? I just kissed her. I met her less than a week ago and I kissed her. Smooth move Carl. How could I be so stupid? I let go of Cassie's hand and exit the cell. I really just have to collect my thoughts.~
Hey guys! This chapter is kind of fast moving and hard to understand, but I hope you like it! Chapter 5 is coming soon! ~Lilly
