Can we have one moment of happiness anymore? I sprint inside the meeting hall and there stands Enid. She has a knife in one hand and has Kat in a head-lock with the other.
"Enid. Let her go. Now." I say.
"It really wasn't hard to escape." She says. She has a crazy look in her eye that I don't like. We need to stop this.
"We can work this out. Just please, let Kat go. She didn't do anything." I say trying to hold back my tears.
"I know you love her. I know that if I hurt her, I hurt you." Enid says in a dark, cold voice.
"You can have me. You can do what you want to me. Just don't do anything to Kat."
"Cass, no." Carl says.
"Carl, she's my sister." I say with tears in my eyes. I put down my weapons. Everyone stands around me in shock.
"I don't want you. I want him." She snaps at me, nodding towards Carl. Carl's eyes turn dark as anger builds up in him.
"You can have him. I don't love him anyway. He loves you, Enid." I say back. Hopefully she buys my lie. I look back at Carl and I see hurt in his eyes, but it disappears once he understands what I'm doing.
"You don't love him?" She asks me, slowly letting her guard down.
"I never did. Just please let Kat go and you can have Carl. I promise." I say giving her a smirk. My plan obviously worked because she dropped the knife and let go of Kat.
"There you go." I say smiling. She smiles back and Rick takes this opportunity to grab her.
"No! No! What are you doing?!" She starts screaming and kicking. Glenn walks over and helps Rick drag her outside. He knows what he has to do.-
After Rick led Enid outside, he shot her. She was a danger to us. She almost killed me and Kat. I sprinted over to Kat and pulled her into a hug.
"You're okay." I say letting out a sigh of relief. She was in shock, but she was okay after a while. Jason came over and joined our hug.
"She's gone. You're fine."-
"You guys are going to have to share an apartment. We need to save as much space as possible." I say to Jason and Kat.
"That's okay." They both say in unison.
"Can I ask..who's the leader here?" Jason asks me curiously.
"Um, I am." I say being shy.
"Rick helps me." I add quickly.
"Oh. That's great!" He says smiling at me. I'm so glad he's okay with that. I thought he would want to take over this place. I mean, he is three years older than me. I lead the two of them to a larger apartment that's right next mine.
"I'm right next door. So, if you ever need anything, come and find me." I say hugging them both.
"We love you!" Kat says.
"I love you guys too!" I say back as I begin to walk away.-
I sit down on top of the big hill. It's the same one that Carl and I had our talk on a while ago.
"Shouldn't you be sleeping?" I hear a voice behind me and spin around to see Carl.
"I could ask you the same thing." I say back laughing. He walks up the hill and sits down next to me.
"I'm sorry about Kat." He says putting his arm around me. I cuddle up to his chest and lay my head on his shoulder.
"She's okay. That's all that matters." I say as memories of earlier flash into my mind.
"Why are you up anyway?" He asks me.
"I can't sleep." I say quietly.
"I can't either." He says back. I look up at him and he smiles at me.
"All the stuff I said to Enid earlier was fake. You know that right?" I ask him.
"I didn't know that at first, but as soon as I looked at you, I knew." He says in almost a whisper. I look into his eyes and it's like I'm taken into a different world. A world with just him and me. No walkers, people, or worries. Just us. He leans in and closes the space between us. I get the same feeling of butterflies in my stomach. The kiss lasted for a while until we heard someone clear their throat behind us. We both flip around and move away from each other.
"Dad! I-I mean, hey dad! What's up?" Carl asks in a shaky tone. He starts rubbing the back of his neck. He's embarrassed. Rick lets out a laugh and says,
"Get to bed you two." We both nod and start to get up. Carl grabs my hand and smiles at me.
"That was nice." He says letting out a small laugh. He's blushing like crazy. Even in the darkness, I could still see.
"Yeah, we should totally do it again some time." I say sarcastically and laughing. He rolls his eyes and laughs with me.
"I have a question!" I say excitedly. Carl starts laughing at my excitement.
"What would that be?" He asks.
"What's your full name?" I ask him.
"It's Carl Anthony Grimes." He says laughing.
"What's yours?" He adds.
"My full name is Cassandra Marie Smith." I say laughing. He just makes me so happy. I can't stop laughing.
"That's a very pretty name." He says smiling.
"So is yours. I-I mean, it's handsome? I don't even know what I'm saying anymore." I say laughing even harder. He pulls my hand and starts leading me towards my apartment. He turns around so we're facing each other. He's grown a lot over the past couple of months, so I'm only up to his shoulder now. He grabs both my hands and kisses me. I pull away and quickly try and run inside.
"Goodnight Grimes." I say laughing again. He leans in to kiss me again, but I move out of the way.
"You're such a tease." He says rolling his eyes.
"I know." I say giving him the cheesiest smile I could. I kiss him on his cheek and smile at him.
"Goodnight Smith." He says smiling like crazy. He's blushing again. I laugh and close the door behind me.-
I wake up to a knocking on my door.
"Cass, I'm going to break down this door if you don't wake up!" Carl yells through the door.
"I'm up. Calm yourself!" I yell back. I hear his laugh through the door and I walk up to it. I open and just poke my head through.
"Hello." I say. He leans in to kiss me, but I move away.
"Ohhhh no. You woke me up and you think you could just come here and kiss me?" I ask jokingly.
"Well. You do look really cute right now, so, yeah." He says sarcastically. I playfully hit his arm.
"Now you really aren't getting a kiss." I say crossing my arms and laughing. He pretends to be sad and follows me inside. Suddenly I feel his arms slide around my waist and they pick me up.
"Put me down!" I yell while laughing. He throws me onto my bed and lays down next to me. We both just stare up at the ceiling.
"I want to do something today. I want to go outside the walls on an adventure." I say sighing.
"It's dangerous out there." Carl says back seriously.
"I survived multiple months by myself. I think I could handle it." I say back to him. I'm starting to get a bit defensive here.
"Cass, things are different now. Remember what happened last time you went out alone? That man tried to hurt you." He says to me. I shiver at the thought.
"I'd protect myself Carl." I snap back.
"Can I at least come with you?" He asks me.
"I'm not some puppy on a leash. No." I say.
"Don't do this. Don't shut me out again." He says.
"Shut you out? Are you kidding me? That's it. I'm done. I'm going for a walk outside the fence. You have no say in this. Goodbye." I say grabbing my jacket and sprinting out the door. I quickly stop by the group's house and tell Rick he's in charge. I then walk outside the gates and walk down the road. I pull out my gun just in case something comes at me. I walk further and I hear a groan. I look to my left and there's a single walker. He used to have a life. Maybe even a family. A job, friends, people who loved him. People he loved. I then whip my knife out of my waistband and stab him in the head. I pull it out wiping the little blood that was on my hands, onto my pants. I keep walking and soon enough, I find the car that Enid drove me in. Should I go back? What if I do get hurt? Carl was right. I do shut him out. I quickly turn around and start sprinting. My breathing intensifies. I'm having a panic attack. I stop and fall to the ground and try to catch my breath. I finally start to breathe normally again. I get back up and calm myself. I hope he isn't mad at me for storming out.
"Cassie?" I hear someone yell out. It sounded like Carl.
"Carl?" I yell back. He comes running out of the trees and hugs me.
"I-I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have ran out like that." I say in a shaky voice.
"It's okay. You're back now. That's all the matters." He says to me. He slowly leads me farther down the road and into the gates of Alexandria.-
He walks me up to our hill and we sit down. I realize that I was actually outside for a long time. The sun was already setting.
"I love you so much. Please, promise you'll never leave me." Carl says to me.
"I can't promise you that, Carl. We're all going to die. All of us. There's no way we can be ready for it." I say.
"But I promise you that I'll try my hardest to never leave you." I add trying to lighten the mood.
"Good. I don't know what I would do without you." He says smiling at me. We're in the same position we were in last night. His arms are around me and I'm snuggled into his chest. He looks down at me just like last night and kisses me just the same. But this time, there's no one interrupting us. It feels like time stops. I only focus on him, the boy I love. After a long time, I pull away and watch the beautiful colors of the sun fade into the night.~
