Nyla's POV
The faint sound of fighting in the other room was on the back of my mind. It's been a day, and Wu is giving me lessons to find my unique element. Though, I highly doubt we'll find it, since I have not once used any elemental abilities growing up. Those really would have helped growing up...My wound in my rib was treated, and should heal in about a week. But I'm strong, sort of, and I won't let a wound like that keep me from being athletic.
But it does give Lloyd a fright. It makes me laugh when I start jumping in front of him and he goes crazy, worrying about my wound. It feels great to have someone care for me again.
I was brought back to reality when Sensei Wu spoke to me. "Feel the elements around you, Nyla. Concentrate on your element." I thought long and hard about elements around me.
II tried to focus on the elements, but just couldn't. I opened my eyes to see Sensei Wu, his eyes closed.
I looked around the room, before sternly told to close my eyes once more.
"Do not rely on your sight to find, but sound. Sound will be your friend in times like these." Sensei Wu said.
I closed my eyes and focused on listening. The faint sounds of fighting was the only thing I could hear.
But to my luck, I suddenly heard a chirp from a tiny bird. A continuous chirp that made me feel something. I thought I heard mumbling from the bird, as if it was communicating to me, but I couldn't understand it fully yet.
"What do you hear?" Sensei Wu asked me. I took a deep breath. I could still hear the chirping. "I hear chirps from a tiny bird." I said.
I could hear Sensei Wu's confusion, but I still didn't open my eyes.
"Nyla. Open your eyes. Tell me if you still hear the chirps." Sensei Wu said. I opened my eyes as I was told. I saw Sensei Wu looking at me, confusion clear as day on his face. "What is it Sensei?" I asked, wondering why he was confused about me hearing chirps.
"Where do you hear the bird coming from?" Sensei Wu asked. I got up after sitting on the floor for what seemed like thirty minutes, and walked towards a window. I looked out the window, hoping to see a bird, but all I saw was the grey wall of the next door building. I looked up and down the little alleyway, but no bird in sight.
"I heard it coming from over here, Sensei. But I don't see any bird." I said, now understanding why Sensei Wu was so confused about a bird chirping. "Do you still hear the bird?" Sensei Wu asked.
I closed my eyes, the chirping sounded louder. Like the bird was moving.
"It's over there Sensei." I said as Sensei Wu came up to me. I pointed to the sky up above, and when Sensei Wu looked out the window, we saw a bird flying over the narrow alleyway, chirping happily, before flying away.
"Hm." Sensei Wu sounded. He stroked his beard as he walked around the room. "Sensei? What element does this mean I am? Have I found my element?" I asked, excited. Sensei Wu looked to me with an unreadable expression on his face. "Did you hear anything else during the meditation?" Sensei Wu asked.
I thought for a moment more, before answering. "I heard faint talking, but it sounded like it was coming from the bird." I told Sensei, but when I said that, I felt completely stupid.
Sensei Wu nodded, "I'll meditate on this." He said. "You may leave now." I nodded, and I headed towards the door to head out into the hallway. When I got out of the room, I didn't know what to do at that point. Until I heard the fighting from Lloyd's training. So, I decided to watch Lloyd's training.
I happened to walk in on Dareth screaming over his faking trophies. And I happen to know this because Lloyd was kind enough to introduce me to Dareth, and also reveal the truth on how he is a fake Sensei. Or, as Dareth likes to call it, 'Grand Sensei'.
