This is a sneak peek into season 3! I had this idea in my head and I wanted to share it.
A/N: Nori is their mutant mother, Chewy is Donnie's pet alien turtle thing. Don't worry, when I write season 2, it'll all make sense. But for now, enjoy this angst with happy ending without context! ❤️💙💜🧡

Donnie receded to the barren wasteland that was New York. The scorching heat from the sun burned Donnie's scaly skin. Beads of sweat started to roll down his forehead along with fresh tears.
"I'm so sorry, guys. You needed me and I couldn't help." Donnie sobbed. Chewy whimpered and nuzzled Donnie's cheek.
"I'm ok, buddy. Don't worry." He lied. He wasn't fine. He was devastated. His brothers were gone. April was gone. Casey was gone. His love. Oh, Casey. That pained him the most. And splinter. Poor splinter. Lost to the flames of hatred and bloodlust. Donnie pulled his hoodie over his head as he entered town. When he reached his tent, Nori ran and hugged him.
"Donatello! I'm sorry for your loss! I heard the explosion and I see you are alone. Are your family members ok?" She asked. Donnie burst into to tears.
"No! Their dead! All of them! Why them?! It should've been me!" He cried. Nori hushed him hugged him tight.
"You need some rest, my son." She cooed. She walked the turtle into the tent and settled him into bed. Chewy rested his head Donnie's plastron. Donnie snored silently, his chest rose and fell. Donnie awoke in a dark room, surrounded by his dead loved ones.
'How could you, Donnie?! How could you fail us?!' Leo spoke.
"I'm sorry! I really am!" Donnie whimpered.
'Cut the act! If you weren't so arrogant, we would be alive!' Raph spoke.
"I'm sorry!" Donnie cried.
'You think your so smart! But in reality, your just a big jerk!' Mikey spoke. Donnie's breathe hitched when he felt a hand grab his shoulder and turn him around.
'I can't believe I considered you a friend, you three fingered freak' April spoke.
Donnie's heart broke at what Casey said.
'I can't believe I loved you.' Casey spoke. Donnie fell to the ground and cried hysterically. But then a clawed hand grabbed his shoulder.
'Donatello. You must find the statue. Do what we couldn't.' Splinter said. He started to fade away and Donnie reached out for him.
"Wait! How! I failed once! I'll fail again!" Donnie yelled.
'Do what you have to. Find the statue. Restore the peace.' Splinter said before fading completely. The turtle woke up in a cold sweat and gasped for air. He needed to find the statue. He had to. The next morning, Donnie went into yokai town with Chewy. He was stopped by a tan bunny yokai with white spots.
"Um do I know you?" He stuttered.
"Terribly sorry. But you are the ghost warrior, correct?" She asks. Donnie nods and she smiles softly. "Excellent! I'm sugar and I'm a time keeper!" She says.
"What's a time keeper?" Donnie questioned.
"I'm the one that can restore peace! I just need the emerald eyed serpent! And to my understanding, your going on a journey for it! I'm willing to make you a deal. If you find the artifact and return it to me, I'll bring back your deceased loved ones." She offers. Donnie ponders but agreed. He shakes her hand.
"Alright, rabbit. You've got yourself a deal. Wait! How did you know they were dead-" Donnie said but as he finished, the rabbit disappeared into the crowd of yokai. He exits town and heads for the one place he knows the statue will be. Shredder's lair. Donnie walks past the rusty, bloodstained spikes that surround the eyesore of a palace. The crunch of debris and scolding sand is all that can be heard except for the blistering wind that blew past the outlaw's ear slits. Chewy panted and whimpered as the metal doors opened with an ear shattering creak. They thumped against the wall and Donnie entered. The turtle signaled for Chewy to go swim to cool off. He was pissed but not oblivious to his pet's sluggish performance. The creature's collar rattled as he ran to the mote surrounding the throne that shredder sat on.
"Oh. Hello, turtle. To what do I owe the pleasure?" The armored man spoke.
"The pleasure is all mine. I believe you have something that belongs to me. I would like it back." He replied, gesturing to the pedestal the emerald eyed serpent stood.
"No can do, purple. But I'm willing to make a trade. Give me the gauntlets and I'll give you the artifact." He said. Donnie's eyes gleamed with anger and pain.
"Why should I? So you can murder me like you murdered my brothers?" Shredder laughed, and tsked.
"Then I guess I'll be holding onto this." He said huskily.
"Alright, shredhead, either give me the artifact, or I claim it myself." He threatened. Shredder stood and descended down an obsidian staircase, he paused as he stood before the outlaw, eyebrows furrowed.
"You and what army? You have come alone and that beast will be of no use to you in it's current state. You will surely perish." He said, withdrawing a blade from his belt. Donnie swung with his staff and his attack was blocked by the blade. Shredder punched the turtle in the stomach and then square in the face. Blood trickled from the turtle's snout. Donnie wiped the blood off with the underside of his wrist and returned the punch. It lands on shredder's throat and he lets out a choked yell. He grabs the edge of the outlaw's shell and tosses him across the room. Donnie collides with a wall and rubs the sore area. Shredder sprints toward the fallen vigilante and kicks his nose. He grabs the turtle by the throat and lifts him off the ground. The hero chokes and strains as he tried to kick the villain but to no avail. Shredder holds a blade to Donnie's forehead.
"Do you really think your brothers cared about you?! Do really think for a second they would've cared whether you lived or perished?! They didn't love you! They only cared about your gift! Your the reason their dead! Your the reason they left!"
"Shut up."
"Your the reason they sacrificed themselves!"
"Shut up."
"Your the reason your father died! Your the reason your brothers died! Your the reason your friends died! It is all. Your. Fault!"
"SHUT UP!"
Donnie bit down on shredder's hand, prompting the villain to release him and groan in agony. Donnie punched him in the face, hard. Over and over and over again. He pinned the armored man the ground and continued to punch him.
"It's not my fault! Your the reason! Your the reason humanity is doomed to fail, you pathetic little man!" Shredder chuckled as the punches continued.
"WIPE THAT SMUG LOOK OFF YOUR FACE!" Donnie yelled as he punched the villain in the nose. The hero broke out in tears, his punches never ceasing. "COME ON! KILL ME! KILL ME LIKE YOU KILLED MY BROTHERS! COME ON, YOU TIN CAN! KILL ME! I DARE YOU TO TRY!" Shredder grabs the turtle's fists before another punch could be delivered.
He kicked the turtle off of him and stood, blood oozing from wounds Donnie's fist left. He took the turtle's neck in his hand and slammed him into the ground. He continued to do that until the turtle was reduced to pained coughing. He dragged the turtle up the staircase and pinned him to the edge of the throne stand. Donnie's head hung off the edge as his vision started to whiten. He felt hot and dizzy.
"You put up a good fight, Donatello. But it all went to waste. And so, you shall die by my hands, just like your loved ones. Any last words, ghost warrior?" Splinter said. Donnie heard the sound of water sloshing below and looked down. Chewy was swimming around at the bottom. Donnie had and idea. A sadistic, bloody, terribly wonderful idea.
"Yeah. Rot in hell, you glorified cheese grater." Donnie snapped before pushing shredder above his head with his feet. Shredder cried out as he fell and Donnie's mind flashed with the memories of himself falling into the jaws of one of the trinilizards.
"Chewy! Go fetch!" Donnie yelled. Chewy looked up and roared as he jumped up from the water, his jaws opening to catch shredder. The villain's cries we're all that could be heard until-
Crunch.
Shredder was chopped in half by Chewy's massive jaws. The man's blood stained the crystal clear water at the base of the tower. The turtle lifted the golden, emerald eyed statue off the pedestal and put it in his bag. Chewy leaped out of the water and wagged his tail as he waited for Donnie to get to him. He gnawed on the deceased man's helmet and dropped it at Donnie's feet. The clang the metal echoed against the walls and Donnie picked it up. Bloody water dripped from it and pooled on the concrete floor. Donnie placed it in his bag and went to go fish the remaining halves of shredder from the water. He tied the body halves together with rope and attached it to Chewy's harness. He slipped his bō staff into its holder and mounted Chewy. He tapped Chewy on the side and began his journey back home. When he arrived, Nori greeted him at the flap of the tent.
"Welcome back, Donatello! Did you get it?" She asked. Donnie nodded and pulled it out. Her eyes widened in surprise. "This is excellent news! Now we can restore peace between yokai and humans." She said.
"I'm afraid it's to late for that, bud." Donnie said wearily. Her demeanor shifted to a sad remorse. Her eyes landed on a red figure attached to Chewy's harness.
"What is on the Zepliona's harness?" She asked. The turtle replied "shredder" and she was horrified.
"You killed him?!" She screamed.
"Nope. Chewy did. I just assisted." He replied. She looked at the floor, then to Donnie.
"What will you do with him?" She asked. He shrugged.
"I dunno. Probably feed him to Chewy." The turtle replied dryly. She grimaced at the thought of it and swallowed down bile but failed. She gagged and ran over to the river. And that's what Donnie did. He entered the tent and switched on the lights. He pushed Chewy's bowl to his pet bed and started to cut up shredder's body. Chewy whined and pressed his snout against Donnie's arm trying to push it up so he could eat the chunks.
"Almost done, Chewy." Donnie cooed. Chewy sat down with a thump as he waited for the genius to finish. Donnie scraped the bloody chunks into Chewy's bowl and the alien dug in. He was done in an instant. The creature burped and out popped shredder's glass eye.
"Ew Chewy! Gross!" He groaned. Chewy snorted and kneaded at his bed before spinning around and laying down. "Chewy! Come on! Don't be like that!" Donnie cooed. Chewy chirped and curled up. "Ok. Your right. it's bedtime." He said. He switched off the lights and laid down on his mattress. Nori entered the tent, rubbing her eyes. She laid underneath her heat lamp and fell asleep. But Donnie lay there, awake. Staring at the ceiling. He sat up and left the tent, trying not to wake the snoring alien and the dozing chameleon. He walked down the trail and looked around at the lights of search helicopters and yokai town in the distance.
He reached a clearing and sat down on his calves. Before him, were 6 graves. One for Leo, Mikey, Raph, Casey, April, and Splinter. He sat there and saw memories of their childhood flash through his mind. The time he went to school with April to help her with a foodie fundraiser, the time they all went to the Amazon and searched for the head of the statue, when Donnie and his brothers were toddlers and they learned to use their weapons, the time Donnie got sprayed with love mist, and- oh dear. Donnie sniffed and cried on his knees, fat tears streaming down his face and landed on the dirt at his hands. He clenched his fists as his sobs grew louder, the pain in his heart to great to ignore.
"I'm... I'm so sorry." He sobbed. "I couldn't protect you! It's all my fault!" He cried. A glowing mist blurred his vision. The ghosts of his past love ones.
'Donnie.' Leo spoke.
"Huh?"
'It's not your fault' Mikey spoke.
"It is."
'No. It's not your fault." Raph spoke.
"It is!"
'It's not your fault.' Splinter spoke.
"No, master splinter. Not you!"
'It's not your fault.' April spoke.
"Screw you! Cut it out!"
'It's not your fault!' Casey spoke.
Donnie broke down into tears as he fell into Casey's arms.
"It is! I'm the reason your dead! If I hadn't gotten these stupid accessories you'd be here with me! You'd still be alive! We could have been together forever! But I just had to be the one! Some warrior I am! Why is this so hard?! I'm not cut out for this! I'm no hero!" He sobbed. He cried and cried.
'Donnie. You are the most capable person I know for this role. You deserve this. And I'm so sorry for making you feel like you being different was wrong.' Leo said. Donnie cried into Casey's arms before being awakened by Chewy licking his face. 'Oh it was just a dream.' He thought.
"Chewy cut it out!" Donnie said, just now realized it was morning and Chewy was licking the tears off his face. Alright, another day. Let's get down to business. He walks into town to find the rabbit. She appears behind and tapped his shoulder.
"Hello, ghost warrior! Did you get the artifact?" She beamed. Donnie nodded and handed it to her.
"So, your gonna bring my loved ones back now, right?" He asked.
"Yes! Here!" She hands him a pouch filled with shimmering dust. "Just sprinkle it on their bodies and they'll rise like the sun! No side effects or anything! It will even get rid of decay and wounds!" She said. Donnie thanked her and headed home. He went to the clearing and sprinkled the dust over the graves of his fallen friends. Something under the sand glowed and his loved ones arise and exit the graves.
"Guys! April! Splinter! Casey!" He cries as he jumps on Casey, wrapping his arms around Casey's neck and his legs around Casey's waist. He sobs into his shoulder.
"Hey, hey, hey! Calm down! I'm right here." Casey cooes. Casey kisses Donnie on his forehead and heaves him up by his thighs so he wouldn't fall.
"I missed you so much!" Donnie said.
"We missed you too, Donnie. Did shredder hurt ya?" Raph said.
"No. And trust me, he won't be a problem anymore." He said. He heard a barking roar echo over a hill and smiled when he saw it was Chewy and Nori.
"Wow! Chewy got big! He used to be the size of a Guinea pig!" Mikey shouted before getting met with Chewy's large tongue licking his face hysterically. He chuckled and scratched Chewy's chin. Chewy's spines shuddered as he leaned into the sensation and then flopped down on his back. All of Donnie's brothers went to go rub the creature's tummy and Donnie stayed with Casey, April and splinter.
"I'm very proud of you, my son." Splinter praised before hugging the sniffling turtle.
"So are we!" April and Casey said before joining the hug.
"I did it! I restored the peace! Soon everything will be better!" Donnie said. His tail wagged for the first time in ages. He was finally happy. Everyone was happy. And soon, earth will be too.
