-Opening your eyes is all that is needed. The heart lies and the head plays tricks with us, but the eyes see true. Look with your eyes. Hear with your ears. Taste with your mouth. Smell with your nose. Feel with your skin. Then comes the thinking, afterward, and in that way knowing the truth.-

March 20th, 2006.Volterra, Italy.
Rowens pov.I followed aro, and Caius clung who to my arm. Since our feed earlier aro had decided that he would introduce himself properly, and the three of us were heading to his study.
After a short walk, we came to large oak wooden crafted doors, aro pushed them open effortlessly despite them most likely being incredibly heavy.
Aro gestured for me to enter, Caius holding my hand as he guided me into the room. I took in the delight that was the hundreds of shelves of books that littered the walls, the warm reds and deep black accentuated the gothic influences. The entire room glowed lit by candles they permeated the atmosphere.
"I must say It was an unexpected yet beautiful sight to witness your powers, ms. Swan." Aro stood in front of me and Caius who was eager to speak with aro so we could leave.
"Rowen... I'm only ms. Swan when I'm teaching." The two kings eyes widened slightly.
"You teach?" Caius pondered his arm coming to wrap around my waist. I bobbed my head from left to right.
"I dabble in the arts I suppose." My nonchalant response had both kings eager to know more, whether that be my hobbies or the extent of my powers.
"You also speak Italian... you've spent some time in Italy? I couldn't see anything before your transformation, I'm assuming that was intentional?"
Aros stares poignantly. I kept my expression neutral, this man was a king one thing about kings was that they always knew what to say, they had a way of making people talk. I knew that everything I said would be heard, there were no such things as secrets in a castle full of vampires. He had seen everything that I had since I turned.
"I did. It was."
This conversation was a game of chess, each move mattered, it was a constant continuation of mental calculation... and I loved to play.
Aros became more political the longer our conversation continued.
"I do hope it wasn't because you don't trust us." Another move made by the king, Caius growled at his brother, his grip tightening around my waste.
"I'd be a fool to trust you aro."
I countered, not missing the small chuckle that came from Caius before he promptly covered it over with a cough. Check and mate.
"Indeed you would. Your majesty."
Aro's sickly sweet voice was almost inaudible. He turned his back to us before he spoke again.
"There is a question that lingers in my mind."
He turned around again to face us, his expression calculating.
"Go on, brother."
Caius insisted. He was ever more eager to get out of this room.
"Well, the matter surrounding your coronation, Rowen. Not to mention legitimising yourself as one of the members of Volturi royalty."
I tilted my head to the side, my eyes trailing aros figure.
"Isn't that what a coronation is all about? The legitimisation of a monarch?"
My question hung in the air for a few moments, aros eyes finding caius'a in a silent understanding, my mate became more agitated.
"Well that would be correct if we were mortal... but we are not. You cannot have a coronation as an unmarried woman, luckily to even be able to become a monarch for the Volturi you must be mated to one of the kings... which you are, therefore a wedding is a formality."
I scoffed... my eyes rolling I looked up at Caius who was a good 7 inches taller than me. His apologetic expression told me that aro was right. I huffed crossing my arms and stepping from Caius' grip, his hand falling back to his side.
"You've got to be kidding? I've been here all of five minutes, and I'm already being married off, on whose authority, yours?"
I snapped, never in my life have I been forced to bend all my morals and boundaries for someone.
"As your king... yes." Aros quipped, my voice soon interrupting him.
"You may be a king aro but once I am crowned you will hold no power over me... I will marry Caius on your orders, your majesty, and I will be queen."
I held his gaze, silence enveloping the room. I strode back to Caius's side whose arm was already outstretched ready to rest on my waist."Sarai regina, amore mio. Questo posso darti." His velvety voice murmured in my hair.
"Very well, I expect to be informed of a date. After the wedding, we will discuss your coronation. Caius, why don't you show your mate to her chambers."
Aro sat down at his desk, dipping his quill in ink before writing on some forms.Caius' hand fell on the small of my back, guiding me out of the doors and into the hallway.
"This way, amore mio."
We sped through the winding corridors of the castle, the stone walls and candlelight chandeliers blurred as we passed.
Another pair of large ornate wooden doors came into view, and Caius pushed open the doors revealing the room. I was utterly amazed at the luxurious and elegant design of my chambers. Beautiful scents of freshly burnt wood, cherry and old books danced around the room, in an all-inspiring manner.
"Do you like it? Your arrival was unexpected, I'm sure that if there's anything that isn't to your liking we can find you something more suitable." Caius spoke, already planning on calling for Felix to find me another room...
It would be naive of me to even question how many rooms there were in the castle. I shook my head, slowly stepping onto the plush black carpet. A corner near the window from floor to ceiling was littered with thousands of books. A large red and exposed wood cabriole and a small oak side table brought a touch of romance to the reading corner.
Though I needn't sleep there is nothing quite like the mundane task of lounging in a bed... I don't drift off into fairytales and dreams anymore, part of me believes I'm living it instead... a large cherry wood four-poster California king bed sat in the centre of the room, the silk burgundy pillows and satin black sheets were the most beautiful fabrics I had ever seen.
Once I had walked around the room I spun around quickly, caius' eyes following me.
"It's all fine thank you, I just have one request... well it's more like a question." My mate crossed his arms, raising a cautious brow.
"Go on..." I glanced around the room, bringing my hands to clasp in front of me.
"When I was human, my father took me hunting, fishing, anything you name it I was doing it. My point is, all of this is awfully overwhelming and I need something that's just for me. Please, my king, allow me the freedom of horseback." I raced to him, pleading with my eyes. Hoping his need to keep me safe doesn't extend to keeping me trapped."Horseback? You hunt? You know that being a vampire means you're at the top of the food chain, what freedom will horseback and hunting give you that being immortal will not?"
He queried, I thought for a moment. My eyes are on the red and orange embers roaring from the fire. Turning back to Caius I raised my right hand, a small orb of amethyst appeared, Caius looked on in a childlike wonder, and I danced the orb between my fingers.
"I can move, manipulate or otherwise destroy anything if I so desired. I could rule over ash and death, killing anyone who so much as questioned my ability to wear the crown... I can break a person's mind, warp their thoughts and emotions so disastrously that they're left drooling into the carpet... I can do all of that and so much more yet none of it makes me feel the way the wind blowing in my hair does, or the feeling of adrenaline coursing through my dead veins, if I am to truly be happy here do not cage me away, do not try to contain me... for you will surely fail, amore mio."
My voice seductive and clear, I brought my hand to trail on caius' cold cheek, hun leaning into my touch.
After a moment of silence he spoke, his hand coming to push a stray piece of hair behind my ear, my chest rose and fell unnecessarily, eager for his words of approval.I so wanted to fall in love with him, to have him not only as my mate but as my best friend... if I was locked away in a tower for fear I would be killed... my wish for a happy ending would never happen.
"Very well, Mia Regina. you may have your horseback, your hunting, whatever hobbies you wish to partake you have my full support, on one condition."
He held his index finger up. His eyes locked onto mine."Me or your chosen member of the queen-guard will be there for any activity outside of the castle walls... is that clear Rowen?"
His aura of dominance sent a shiver down my spine, it was refreshing to be forced to let my dominant personality take a breather. I brought my hand behind his neck, bringing his face closer to mine, his blonde hair falling past his crimson irises."Understood, Il mio Re."
my eyes flicked from his to his lips, instantly he crashed his lips into mine, and it was then I knew true bliss for I had never felt an instant rush of love quite like this before...Caius Volturi was not only my mate... but he was the other half of me, one soul split in half.
Nothing will ever be quite the same again.
