Chapter 9: Unforeseeable Death
They backed off to create some distance from the black silhouette that was dashing towards them from total darkness.
The team could feel the cold sweat on their backs after learning she could cut anything like paper with the huge scythe she was holding effortlessly.
Until she tripped on one of the dead bodies . "...Shit" She fell down and rolled down the hallway as the group stepped aside to make way for her.
After her blunder, she stood up with the help of her scythe. Ame shone the corridor with her lighter and revealed the features of the assailant.
She was a tall and well endowed lady with sakura-coloured hair. Her grayish irises and slender body eerily complimented her black cape drenched in blood with a black dress.
"Booba..." Gura said in amazement.
The woman was agitated "I'LL KILL ALL OF YOU BASTARDS!!"
She tried dashing towards them again but this time Ame extinguished the flame coming from her lighter.
The woman made a clean sweep of her scythe but realized that she did not hit anything in her path.
"NO! SHOW YOURSELVES!" She commanded in frustration.
Nobody responded to her
"FUCKING COWARDS!" she spat into the void.
Her saliva flew into darkness but it was then returned back into her mouth and she reflexively swallowed it out of confusion.
The woman tried to process what happened then she threw a fit. "YOU ALL DISGUST ME!!" she started flailing her scythe around in hopes of hitting anything in her path.
"Calm down, we are here to help you!" Aiden tried to get her attention.
Her head turned around towards Aiden's direction and sent out a gust of wind after swinging her scythe towards his direction. He dodged it by side stepping from his original position, the wind passed by him and left a mark on the walls where it landed.
"I'M SICK AND TIRED OF YOUR LIES! JUST DIE ALREADY! " Calli broke her scythe in half and the world was painted in absolute darkness.
'Ouch!' Ame felt someone stepped on her foot.
"Sorry" Gura apologized.
"I can't see anything." Aiden realized.
"There you are!" the woman yelled and started attacking us with her bare hands.
She was extremely fast and her fists moved fluidly like a steady stream of water. Aiden had a hard time defending against her even though he had a longer range with his staff.
The woman coiled her hands around his staff like a snake and managed to land two strikes into Aiden's body. He flew backwards from the ungodly might of her punches and was caught by both Ame and Gura to help disperse his momentum.
"Can you keep going?" Ame asked him.
Aiden looked back at the women, the pink-haired attacker was walking towards them menacingly "What is she exactly?"
"She's a pseudo god imbued by the concept of death." Ame explained.
Her answer only left Aiden with more questions than answers, but he does not have the leisure to ask them now.
"How can we defeat her?" Aiden went straight to the point.
Ame smiled, "Gura, can you buy us a few seconds?"
Gura summoned her trident and went against the woman.
"We pseudo gods could break our divine weapon in order to temporarily boost our domains." Ame continued.
"So, we can only wait for her boost to expire or we use another domain to compete with it. However none of us can break her domain right now ."
"Therefore... we need someone to contest it from the outside." Ame had a smug look "You get what I mean?"
Aiden suddenly thought of what she was insinuating. Gura landed onto the wall behind them and plopped down.
"She's a monster, I did all I can." Gura had a defeated look.
"So tell me, how long would you need Aiden?" Watson removed her overcoat and pulled up her sleeves.
"15 seconds."
"Make it 12 and I'll buy you a drink." Ame grinned confidently.
"I'm going insane if I have to keep doing this." Aiden muttered underneath his breath.
He placed both his hands onto the ground and it shook the entire place for a moment.
Ame went into the woman's range in a blink of an eye by accelerating herself. She managed to hit her for the first time using the element of surprise.
The woman immediately countered her by throwing a punch towards her right cheek. Ame could barely dodge it.
The punches scraped her cheek but Ame was amazed by her. "How are you standing after taking a hit in the liver?"
"I had you, but for a millisecond you vanished." the woman questioned what she saw.
"Guess I'll find out the hard way." Ame sent her a flurry of punches but the woman bobbed and weaved her way through them in order to land a single punch. The blonde girl could feel impending death if she were to take the hit.
She summoned her divine raiment out of thin air which was the overcoat she threw away earlier back in her hands and covered her fist in a circular motion. After her knuckle was wrapped by the overcoat, she redirected it and threw the woman over her shoulders.
The assailant landed on her back, causing the floor to dent. She opened her eyes to see the shadowy figure she first defeated, focusing on something on the floor.
"Are we there yet?" Ame asked Aiden
"Any moment now," he replied.
The woman threw away the overcoat that was wrapped around her arm. "You can't defeat me."
"I know," Ame pointed her hand into the darkness. "but he can."
The woman sees Aiden in the form of a shadowy figure and suddenly felt her domain was broken from the outside. Earth and soil rumbled and the facility started collapsing.
From the outside, the land mass was 37 kilometers above ground, entering the domain of the Goddess of the Bow. A massive arrow of light was lodged onto the floating island, causing it to fall apart.
