Moonpaw collapsed into his father's fur. Why StarClan, why...
"What's going on? What happ-" Echoheart fell silent when she saw Moonpaw's face.
"He's... dead?" she croaked.
Treepool nodded solemnly.
"No... my love..." was all she could say before she lay down alongside Moonpaw.
Moonpaw didn't notice anything after that. He felt his father's body being moved to the centre of camp, and Treepool leading him to it. He knew he should be angry at her, or something, but he knew it wasn't her fault. All he felt was grief. It was hollowing him out from the inside, until it was so agonizing, he could hardly bear it.
When the vigil was over, he went to his nest. When Treepool offered him water, food, and poppy seeds, he refused. Slowly, he drifted off to sleep.
**********
Moonpaw was standing in an unfamiliar forest, with trees that reached up so high, their disappeared between the clouds.
Suddenly, a gray and white tom stepped out of the undergrowth.
"Who... who are you?" stammered Moonpaw.
"I am Cloudstar. Past leader of SkyClan." he said proudly.
Moonpaw remembered him from the Clan stories.
"You...you led SkyClan to the gorge?"
"That is right. Now, listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: Where there is Shadow, the Moon will always find a way to give light, no matter how far it has to shine." Cloudstar started to fade away.
"Wait! What do you mean?" Moonpaw didn't understand.
"Be patient. All will be revealed soon. But remember this: StarClan will always be there to give you strength to leap like a Tiger, help you storm as though you are no lighter than a Feather, and run faster than a Blizzard."
Then, suddenly, Moonpaw was back in his nest.
