Moonpaw collapsed completely. The next few moments were a blur, a typhoon of voices cascading around him. His mother's, Lilacpaw's...but one stood out above all. Stormstar's grief-stricken yowl cut through all the commotion around them. His words would echo in Moonpaw's nightmares forever: "This is all my fault! If I had chosen you, this never would have happened!" Stormstar had cried. Moonpaw sensed Featherpaw beside him, reassuring, comforting... but nothing could dampen the terror and grief he felt... What will I do without her? Moonpaw wondered. Before he knew it, he was in his nest, Featherpaw curled up next to him in a fluffy, ruffled bundle. But she's still really pretty, Moonpaw thought. That's something she has that's different from Lilacpaw, he decided. Featherpaw is beautiful, no matter what she does.

"Moonpaw..." whispered Featherpaw softly. "Get up, quick. Today's the big day. We're leaving for the lake, remember?" She continued.
"Oh, yeah." Moonpaw said groggily. He stood up and stretched. It was a beautiful morning, and the birds were chirping cheerfully in the towering oaks.
Then a river of grief came pouring upon Moonpaw's heart. Treepool was dead. He had to do this without her.
Featherpaw must have seen the change in Moonpaw's expression, for in a heartbeat she was by his side, her nose pressed gently into his fur.
She whispered softly, "I'm so sorry Moonpaw. If I could change anything, it would be to save Badgerfur and Treepool. Truly. But don't worry about the journey. StarClan will watch over us. And you'll have me."
Suddenly Featherpaw pulled away and quickly corrected herself:
"I mean...you'll have us. Me, Tigerpaw and Blizzardpaw. That's what I meant."
Moonpaw suppressed a grin, but avoided her eyes as his ears grew hot.
"Let's go wake the others," said Moonpaw, and as he and Featherpaw stood up from their nests, her tail lightly brushed his nose, and he shivered slightly.
Moonpaw, quite puzzled, wondered whether she had done it on purpose, and found to his surprise(and his delight) that he was hoping that she did.
