(S2) Chapter 9: Battle of Kuoh Part 1

Third Person POV

Issei was certainly in a bind right now.

He was sitting at the table, eating dinner with his mother as he was deep in thought. The events that have happened recently have been, what's the word?... A lot to take in.

Not only was the second quest of the Demon castle Dungeon on his mind, but there were also the events that are going on with Kiba, Irina, and her comrades, and getting answers to who or what made the System and why they chose him to have it.

Issei just couldn't wrap his head around all of this, he could feel a migraine slowly coming as he tried so hard to think of an answer to his many questions. However, he knew that he can't answer them all himself and he gets a feeling that neither Rias, Yoruichi, Yamato, Scathach, or Artemis will be much help.

He guessed that for now, he'll have to go into all of this blindly.

Miki: "Are you okay, sweetie? You're awfully quiet"

Issei: "Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm fine mom"

Miki: "Are you sure? You've barely touched your food"

Issei looked down at his plate, she was right he had barely touched anything. He thought he was eating, but it looks like all this thinking had distracted him.

Issei: "Y-yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking is all"

Miki: "Well, if you're not hungry for that then I ca-"

Just then, Miki stopped what she said as she started coughing. Issei was a little concerned about his mom, which soon turned into full-on panic when he saw his mom cough up...

Blood.

She coughed up blood.

Issei: "Mom!"

Issei immediately stood up and moved over to his, placing his hands on her shoulders.

Issei: "Are you okay!?"

Miki: "I-I'm okay sw-"

She coughed again.

Issei felt a spread of worry in his stomach as he placed a hand on his mother's forehead, but he immediately retracted it as he felt that his mother's head was burning.

Issei: "Mom, You have a fever!"

Not only that, she looked paler and paler than the last time he saw her. He knew that something wasn't right, he just knew it but Issei didn't think too much about it because he had to go and face Riser Phenex.

Damn it, he should have seen this coming. He was so stupid, he thought that maybe it was a simple cough and nothing more...how could he be so foolish.

He picked her up bridal style and laid her on the couch and grabbed the house phone and dialed 911.

Receptionist(phone): "911, what's your emergency?"

Issei: "My mother is coughing up blood, I'm not sure what happened. She was fine a moment ago"

Receptionist(phone): "Tell us, your address and we'll send an ambulance toward you"

Issei: "Okay, okay"

And so, Issei told the receptionist where his address is and they quickly sent over an ambulance to his house and took his mom to the hospital. Despite this, Issei's worry did not leave his stomach, not for one second.

The trip was a little long, but they eventually arrived at the hospital where Issei had to wait in a waiting room. As he sat on that chair, waiting nervously for the doctor to come to him. All he could hear was silence and the ticking of a clock that hung on the wall, that's all he could hear.
