After the day when I met Paul, I hung out with Bella and Jacob. They were rebuilding motorcycles. Jake was really into cars and Bella needed someone to get her mind off of Edward. I just wanted to be away from my nana and hanging with my friends was a great excuse to get out of the house. I mainly focused on my homework while occasionally helping Jake and Bella with the bikes. Giving them tools, helping explain what certain parts were and what they were for to Bella. I hung out with them often enough, I earned nickname rights!
But now, the bikes were finished and we were taking them out for a test drive. Jake had asked me if would sit in the bed of the truck with the bikes so he could have some alone time with Bells and I happily said yes, fully supporting his not-so-secret crush on the older girl. She needed to move on from Edward because the chances of him and the rest of the family coming back was slim to none. So, there I was, sitting in the bed of the truck trying to not get crushed between the bikes and the side of the truck. It was windy, so my hair was in a ponytail. It was relatively warm out, even though you couldn't tell because of the wind, so I wore denim shorts, a black halter top with white trimming, and my white cardigan along with a pair of black converse instead of my boots.
We rounded a curve and off in the distance, on the cliffs, four Quileute boys were pushing and shoving each other, seemingly fighting. What the hell are they doing? That's dangerous! As we got closer, three of the boys pushed one of them over the edge, causing me to scream. Bella quickly pulled over and she and I got out of the truck, running over to the railing on the other side of the road.
"Did you see that?" Bella asked worriedly. Jake just laughed. I spun around.
"The hell's so damn funny, Jake?" I exclaimed.
"They're not really fighting, you guys. They're cliff diving." Jake explained. "Scary as hell but a total rush." Bella and I looked back as another boy jumped off.
"A rush?" She repeated.
"I'd be too scared to do that." I muttered, wrapping my cardigan around myself to block out the wind.
"Most of us jump from lower down. We leave the showing off to Sam and his disciples." Jake said with a slight glare toward the group. Bella and I turned and walked back over to Jake.
"You got some kind of beef with him or something?" The older girl asked. Jake looked at them and shrugged.
"I dunno. They just think they run this place." The boy shifted his stance. "Embry used to call them hall monitors on steroids. Now, look at him."
"That's Embry?" I wonder aloud.
"Yeah." Jake looked away.
"What happened to him?" Bella asked.
"He missed some school, then all of a sudden, he started following Sam around like a little puppy." Jake said. "Same thing happened with Paul and Jared." My head snapped toward him.
"Paul? As in Paul Lahote?" I asked. Jake just looked at me, eyes slightly narrowed.
"Yeah. You know him?" He raised an eyebrow. I shrugged.
"I met him. He seemed pretty nice to me." I looked down. "Pretty damn hot, too."
"Well, consider this a warning, Daisy. He's a hothead and a player and he's got severe anger issues. He'll break your heart and probably your face, too." Jake said. "I advise you to stay away from him. I don't wanna see you get hurt." I smiled and patted his arm.
"I'll keep your warnin' in mind, but I'll figure it out for myself. If I come to you or Bella cryin' about him hurtin' me, emotionally or physically, you can say "I told you so" and kick his ass." I hugged the warm Quileute boy tightly. "Now, I have taken it upon myself to go talk to the group of boys because I have a few choice words I need to say to Sam Uley. When I'm done with chewin' his ass out, I'll be at the beach, so pick me up there. I'll see y'all later. Have fun with the bikes." I pulled away from Jake and began walking toward the cliffs. Not before checking my pockets for my phone, of course.
The walk to the cliffs was quick and easy, considering I followed the rocky edge to the area the 4 boys had just been. When I got there, they were all at the top of the cliff again and soaked from head to toe. I stood behind the group, leaning against a tree.
"Alright, who wants to go again?" I heard an unfamiliar voice ask. It came from a boy in ripped cargo shorts.
"I'll give it a shot." I said. My sudden appearance caused three of the four boys to tense up, one of them being Embry. The one who didn't tense up turned around.
"Daisy! Hey." Said Paul with a smile on his face. I smiled back at him.
"Hey, Paul." I looked over at Embry, his shoulders still tensed up. "Hey, Emmy." The boy sighed and turned around.
"Hey there, Miss Daisy." He smiled at me sadly.
"How's Jacob and Quil?" I asked, quickly answering that question. "Oh wait, you wouldn't know."
"Hey-" I held my hand up to silence the unknown boy.
"Quiet you." I glared at him. "I'm not here to yell at Embry. He's the least of my worries at the moment." I sighed. "Sam Uley?"
"That's me." Said a deeper voice. "What do you want?" I walked up to the man and stood right in front of him, glaring up at him.
"Fuck you." Without a second thought, I swung my hand and slapped him across the face. The sound of skin-on-skin contact was satisfying, but the sting after the slap was not. I was quickly picked up and pulled away from the man, being set down a few feet away from him by Paul.
"Woah, Woah, Woah, what the-" The random boy began.
"Shut up, Jared!" Paul and Embry shouted at him.
"That's for breakin' Leah's heart!" I yelled at him. "I would understand breakin' up with her because you lost feelin's, but immediately gettin' with her cousin? That's a whole level of fucked up."
"How about you mind your business and not assume shit when you don't know the whole story?" The man said calmly. "Paul, get her out of here." Paul loosely grabbed my upper arm but I pulled away and looked up at him.
"I can walk just fine on my own." I said calmly before turning to Sam. I thought of something to say but my mind drew a blank and I just glared at him, huffing as I began walking away. Footsteps followed me.
"Slow down, short stack." Paul's voice sounded from behind me. I froze in my tracks and turned to him.
"Just because you're a fuckin' beanstalk, doesn't me you get to call me short." I huffed again and continued walking through the forest, quickly realizing I didn't know where I was going. Stopping, I groaned. "Do you know how to get to the beach from here?" I looked at Paul, seeing him staring at me. He shook his head.
"Uhh, yeah. Follow me." He grabbed my hand and began leading the way. I didn't say anything about it because he was abnormally warm for having already been in the water once today, but I was surprised. He probably just doesn't want me to get lost in here. I thought. Yeah, that's what it is.
