What the hell was I thinking?! I don't have any friends to stay with, no doubt my whole family knows by now, and my spotlight-hogging mother is probably calling the local media right now, dying for a news segment and a plea to get her 'precious Jeremy' back. No. Now that I'm away from them, I need to change. New name, new look, new state to live in if I can get there. I need to be different, I need to be fresh, I need to wipe them out of my mind, my life. I start now.

Limping my way to the nearest Target, I buy a better rucksack to hold all my stuff. I grab supplies; blankets, food and drink off the shelves, dumping them in the shopping cart and sprinting to the next aisle. I get in and get out fast, stopping at the side of the building to fill my bag and examine a few last minute purchases. I guess I was embracing the idea of a new look wholeheartedly, and as I look at the dye and straighteners in one hand and the black eyepencil in the other, I grin. I haven't made a mistake with these, at least not yet I haven't. I'm looking forward to this. But for starters I need a place with light and electricity, and I need it quick. The streets of the suburbs get surprisingly rowdy at night, and although I hate my pile of crap of a family, I don't want them to go through the same thing twice. My breath catches in my throat as my brother's warm smile claws at my thoughts and threatens to make me cry. I look back down at my bag containing my makeover equipment and worry. Is this the right look to take up, considering what happened? I shake my head. The past is exactly that. Over.
