Later that day I arrived to work at The Little Ray of Sunshine cafe, run by Mrs Ray. She was in her late fifties, but didn't look a day over forty! She was five foot four, had soft caramel blonde hair and the greenest eyes I had ever seen.
I arrived slightly late today, due to meeting the so called devil, what was really bugging me was the fact that I didn't even know what he looked like, only that he had dangerous red eyes. Running into the cafe, I squeezed past the long line of customers where Mrs Ray greeted me with a warm smile. I quickly apologised for my tardiness. Damn the devil... "You wouldn't believe the morning I've had," I said whilst putting on the little black apron, I tied it around my waist and grabbed a tray to clear up some empty tables.
"We all have our bad days child," Mrs Ray said softly, "now get back to work before I fire your ass!" Amusement twinkled in her old eyes, lighting them up. This let me know she wasn't being serious, I smiled genuinely at the women I had known for the past five years.
A few hours later, Mrs Ray called me to the back room, "can you be a dear and go down to the basement for some tea bags and coffee?" She looked very busy chopping some vegetables up.
"Yeah sure, want anything else?" I asked opening the door to the dark, creepy, spider infested basement."No, just coffee and tea bags dear." I descended down the squeaky staircase, upon reaching the bottom, I pulled the light switch, but nothing happened. I repeated it a few times to make sure the cord was actually working. Just my luck, now I have to find the tea bags in the pitch black! The strangest thing was the fact that Mr Ray had changed the light only last week!
Turning round to climb back up the stairs not bothering with getting the supplies, I heard a voice that sent shivers down my spine and not in a good way. The voice had me stopping dead in my tracks. "Scared of the dark? Isn't that just adorable, my little angels afraid." My heart rate was beating so fast, I couldn't breathe, depriving my body of sweet oxygen as I felt my air ways closing up.
"W-what are y-you doing here? Go away!" I shouted into the dark nearly hyperventilating.
"I wanted a cup of coffee. Why else would I be here?" I couldn't tell if he was being serious, or if he was extremely good at using sarcasm, but I'm going to bet it was the latter as he stepped into the only light available. Light that was being provided by the opening up the top of the stairs. His cloak in place masking his appearance.
"If you wanted coffee, why aren't you upstairs?" The man shook his head from side to side, chuckling softly to himself, his red eyes glowing with amusement. "Why won't you take your cloak off?" I covered my mouth with my hand, realising I had asked the question out loud, I began backing myself away from him slowly, feeling my feet bump into the first step of the stairs, if looks could kill, well let's just say I'd be 6 foot under by now.
"If you know what I looked like, it would ruin my fun. You see I could pass by you in a street, sit next to you on a bus and you wouldn't have the faintest idea it was me!" He paused slightly. "Also, I happen to be fully aware that the cloak I wear often causes people, mainly humans, to fear me more, that's what humans do you see, they fear the unknown." I snorted at his explanation.
"One, I don't think the average, normal person would have blood red eyes, do you? Two... again with the dramatics, really? I must be special to be graced with the almighty Lucifers presence twice in one day." I paused watching the amusement fade out of his demonic red eyes. "Three... I quaking in my boots! Your cloak is sooo scary!" With that I ran for my life up the stairs...
