* Sorry this chapter is LONG, but I promise it's good...I hope. Enjoy! :)

The sky darkened, the hazy sheet of pale blue sky turning a lighter navy, the horizon blending itself in with the far reaches of the ocean. The darkest patch of sky was circular, bordered off with stormy clouds that seemed to rumble with thunder. The circular formation almost seemed like a tunnel to a different universe, or a dimension for that matter.

Flickers of lightning lit up the bordering clouds, but were not as bright as the meteor-like objects that blasted at unbelievable speeds towards the peace-loving planet.

These strange, mystifying behaviors did not go unnoticed, as Coran typed viciously at his computer. The analyses came back with a large, red error message, matching the mood of the warning alarms that raged throughout the castle. His mind raced with what it could be, but it stayed clouded with the idea that Zarkon was once again launching another attack.

But it was a strange time of day, and somehow, Coran got the sense that this had nothing to do with their evil alien nemesis.

"At least it's 2 in the afternoon this time." Hunk remarked.

"Waking up at 4 am wasn't that bad. You kind of got used to it after a while." Pidge shrugged, his eyes glued to the futuristic screen in front of them.

"What is this, Coran?" Keith asked, crossing his arms in front of him.

"I don't know. I have never seen anything like this before. But I am afraid that it can pose a danger to our planet if this isn't stopped now." Coran turned back to his computer, the 3 paladins walking closer to the screen.

By then the fire balls were right at the border of darkened clouds and flickering lightning.

Lance came in panting like an exhausted dog, leaning over, putting his hands on his knees as he regained his breath. "Okay, can someone explain to me why the sky decided to start puking fireballs at 2 in the afternoon?! Like seriously, I am not in the mood for this!"

"Oh come on, Lance! I'm sure it's not that bad. It's just a couple meteors!" Hunk reassured, patting Lance on the back.

"Those don't look like meteors. Look at the scans, they are almost fully made of metal." Allura seemed mystified as well, as she came up beside Keith. Somehow she was already in paladin gear, her pink and white helmet held under her arm.

"Allura has a good point, and that is why I think you 5 should go on a reconnaissance mission." Coran advised, standing and turning to face the paladins, his arms crossed. "Collect information and come back here, just be careful."

Keith and the other paladins launched the lions, and soared to where the mysterious universal beings were 2 minutes away from crash landing at.

"Hey Keith!" Lance called over the intercom. "What do you think these things are, man? They are kind of intimidating, not that I'm scared!"

"I don't know, to be honest. But we'll find out soon enough!" Keith charged ahead, the force falling into V formation. A little farther out, and the whole planet seemed to tremble, shaking uncontrollably, like someone had set off a grenade; a very large grenade.

"What was that?" Allura asked, a nervous and shaken tone found relatable. Keith swallowed down the bit of fear that sat uncomfortably inside of his chest, before responding.

"The first meteor. It's landed." Keith gasped as he caught sight of a giant crater surrounding the large meteor. The ground seemed to have been forcefully pushed outwards, the grass and soil around singed black.

With the black lion in the lead, the team cautiously landed their lions, trying to make as little noise as possible. The robotic felines glided, landing softly on their front paws before settling. The giant object let out giant pillars of smoke, as red and orange sparks of flame erupted from the outer edges.

Keith copied the other paladins, jumping out of the open jaw of his lion. The paladins were silent, processing the unexpected arrival. Keith almost thought he could hear a rumbling, coming on and then slowly turning off again, like the breathing of a giant.

The air seemed still, almost suffocating, as if time, or the Earth itself, had stopped before the mysterious being. Suddenly, it seemed like things weren't revolving around the one and only powerful Voltron. The only thing that Keith could cling to was the fact that the birds were still singing, their chorus blending in with the whispering trees.

The ground shook once again beneath them, the pebbles and grass dancing with the vibrations. The second meteor had landed just a while away.

Lance cursed to himself, as he stumbled backward. His focus regained, as he looked back to the giant hunk of metal and mystery. "It looks so much bigger in real life. I'm never trusting Coran's monitor again."

"I can hear you, you know?" Coran spoke through the intercoms. Keith had to hold back a slight laugh. "Anyways, I am scanning the meteor, and I think Allura was right. It is not a meteor. It is something much more sinister." Sinister was the perfect word to describe the giant ball of smoking metal that sat in front of them.

"Could it be another one of Haggar's robeasts?" Pidge questioned. He skipped on ahead until he was standing on the edge of the crater. Rocks and pebbles of singed earth crumbled, falling into the pit. A muffled, echoing bang rocked through the figure when the crumbling pieces of blackened earth hit the outer metal shell.

"Haggar's beasts don't arrive in this way. We never see a meteor shower when one of them arrives." Allura reasoned.

"Allura's right. We always see the robeast's coffin and Zarkon's ship. Neither of them have appeared." Keith caught up with Pidge, and paused before gradually sliding down the side of the crater. The rocks and multicolored pebbles seemed to carry him down, as Keith used his feet as breaks.

"Keith! Where are you going? Are you crazy?!" Lance yelled, running to the edge of the crater. He waved his arms around ecstatically as he almost fell into the large hole.

"I don't think that's a good idea." Hunk added, sitting down on the edge, his legs dangling over the ledge.

"Please be careful, Keith!" Allura called worriedly. She had her arms crossed in front of her, hugging herself comfortingly.

Keith stayed silent, focused on his footing as he staggeredly made his way down the hill.

The meteor became larger and larger as he got closer, casting dark shadows upon him. Once Keith got close, he recognized that the pod-like form was covered in silver shiny metal. The light from the afternoon sun reflected off of it like a diamond, causing Keith's eyes to slightly blur from the piercing brightness.

As Keith walked near the front of the pod in awe, his eyes caught sight of something. A little red symbol stood out from amongst the silver. As he wiped the bits of dirt and grime from the surface and crevices, he could make out what looked like a face. It was different shapes all fit together into a robotic form, the eyes triangular. The mouth-like area looked almost frowning, with hints of determination.

But somehow, when Keith kept looking at it, it became depressing. Like whoever wore this symbol went through a lot; good and bad, met heroes and villains, battles that had caused loss over some time.

A time that seemed impossible to process in the human mind.

A feeling of sympathy grew in Keith, before a loud release of air spooked him, the sympathy long forgotten.
