Bumblebee hadn't noticed the visitors, for he was distracted. He was on a strange new planet, only to find Optimus still in stasis. The pod was supposed to wake him up, but something had malfunctioned.
Now, in Bumblebee's frantic mindset, the giant robotic mammals seemed like the perfect suspect.
"Who are you? And what are you doing with my friend?" Bumblebee kept his cannon pointed at the nearest machine, a black cat with dark blue optics.
A human voice from inside one of the lions spoke.
"Greetings, my name is Keith. I am the leader of the paladins of Voltron. We mean you no harm." Humans. There were humans in those machines.
Two inner voices of morality started to brawl inside of Bumblebee's mind. Be ready to defend Optimus, who was helpless in this situation, or be at risk for an attack.
Bumblebee ignored his unsettled thought processes. "What were you doing near...Optimus Prime?"
"We saw you and your friend crash down here, and came to investigate for we are the protectors of planet Arus." A light feminine voice said.
"Yeah, we were not going to hurt Optimus." Keith reassured. "Matter of fact, we are concerned. Do you know what's wrong?"
Bumblebee turned back to his leader, wishing that Ratchet was here. He could fix everything.; get his leader back.
"Something malfunctioned. The ship is damaged. He is in stasis and was supposed to wake up when he landed."
"Do you know how to fix it?" Another male voice asked. Bumblebee shook his head, defeated.
"I have a friend who can fix this but I don't know where he is. He was in a pod like Optimis." Bumblebee looked out over the trees, hoping that Ratchet would appear. Nothing.
Keith could feel his heart sink, the same sympathetic feeling from earlier reamerging. He felt bad for Bumblebee; friend was out of commission, leaving him alone in the middle of an unrecognizable planet.
Keith spun around in his chair, his eyes blurring dizzily. He activated his comm, for he needed advice and fast.
"Coran. Are you there?"
"Yes, hello Keith." Coran answered. Keith could hear the muffled sounds of typing and subtle, calming music.
"We met with one of the robots."
"You mean it woke up?" Coran sat up, now even more alert. Excitement filled Coran's voice, which made Keith slightly sorry
"Not exactly. Another one named Bumblebee has found us and his friend, who is named Optimus. But we have a slight problem." Keith cowered slightly, worried about what Coran might say.
"What's wrong? Lotor?" Coran asked, concerned.
"No, Optimus' pod malfunctioned, which was supposed to bring him out of stasis." Keith could hear Coran hum in thought, and type vigorously, returning to the scans.
"Their technology is much more advanced, but at the same time, has some similarities to ours."
Keith's hope started to return, his heart a little less heavy. "Do you think we could help them?"
There was a momentary pause from Coran's end that seemed to last forever. Keith's hope started to retreat, leaving him in a puddle of hopelessness and guilt. "Yes I believe we can. But we can not bring them to the city or the castle. They will have to stay where they are. We will work from there."
Keith sighed in relief. "Thanks, Coran."
Keith turned off his communicator and turned back toward the crew. The paladins were keeping a conversation with Bumblebee. Though there was a distraction, Keith could still see that the bot was distracted mentally.
"I just contacted Coran, another friend of ours. He was the one who first saw you guys in the pods and sent us out here. Coran said that we can try and help." Keith sighed in relief as the heaviness of the situation was slightly lifted.
"Scrap!"
Jazz skidded to a halt, causing a cloud of dry forest soil to drift into the air.
"You okay, Ironhide?" Jazz asked, transforming out of vehicle mode. The forest ground was rough in terrain, littered with branches and fallen debris.
Ironhide stumbled through the trees, his right hand devoted to stopping the spilling of Energon from his left side.
"I'm fine. These trees are just getting on my nerves." Ironhide growled, as he punched a nearby oak. His iron fist left an indent in the side, and leaves falling from the canopy above.
"I really think we should try communicators. You're making your condition–"
"That's bullscrap. Communicators are not going to work. Plus, that's not going to improve this blasted situation." Ironhide blew a green leaf out of his face, before stumbling toward Jazz.
Jazz sighed. Almost as stubborn as Optimus.
They continued forward toward an unknown destination, stopping every few moments to wait for Ironhide to catch up. As they kept wandering, every bird song, whisper of wind, or chatter of leaves from the canopy began to sound like background noise; muffled and far away. A while more, and they reached a clearing; bright green with patches of crispy, brown grass. The sun had set a bit, not as glaring as it was when Jazz had found his friend.
Ironhide slumped to the ground, out of energy and pained.
"Ironhide! Screw it, man. I am using the coms." Ironhide tried to stand up to intervene but just ended up falling back to his place.
"Can anyone hear me? It's Jazz and Ironhide! Ironhide is hurt! Can anyone hear me?" Jazz groaned as the comm bugged out, only static and an irritating noise filling his processors. He had no idea if his quick message had gotten through.
