* I am planning on typing a backstory on Ratchet on how his journey went too; how he finds his friends, etc.
Longer chapter this time! Enjoy!
"Ratchet!" Jazz called, hope reemerging, his systems relaxing ever so slightly. Ratchet's gaze skipped between Bumblebee and Jazz, then to the red figure lying on the, now blue-stained, grassy ground. Ratchet ran to kneel beside Ironhide, his peds nearly sliding into Ironhide's side on the slippery soil.
"What happened to him?" Ratchet questioned, confused at how something like this could happen. Ironhide had been perfectly fine when he had gotten in the pod, just for his condition to suddenly drop.
"He never told me...not a word. I was the one who found him, and he was like this." Jazz said. Ratchet sighed, leaving the question behind him. The medic went quiet for a second, analyzing the wound in Ironhide's side. Even the slightest touch caused Ironhide to wince, Ratchet quickly backing away, and standing up.
"Well, I can't help him hear in the middle of these plains. It would be unsanitary." Ratchet looked up, his hands partly covered in Energon, straight at the Black Lion. Like the others, Ratchet didn't seem to process the fact that the Autobots weren't the only ones around.
Until now.
"Who are you?" Ratchet asked. "Are you here to help?" He glanced around at the other lions, guarding the area around them.
"We are the paladins of Voltron. And yes, we are here to help out. We have already met Bumblebee, and have somewhat met your friend, Optimus." Keith explained, a quick flash of the metallic, folded pod racing in front of his eyes for a quick second.
Ratchet and Jazz stood up immediately at the sound of their leader's name. "Optimus?" They glanced at each other.
"He was the first guy we met up with before we met you all, before we even met Bee." Hunk spoke up.
"We were waiting for him to wake up before Bumblebee came around." Allura explained, her lion stepping forward. Black lion's head tilted toward her, telling her to step back, so as to not look defensive.
"We'll explain more later. Let's get Ironhide back to our base of operations. Plus, we still have another thing to work out. You can put Ironhide in one of the lions if you want." Jazz and Ratchet nodded before Ratchet transformed into his vehicle mode; a white ambulance with the red crosses on either side.
As Jazz walked the way to the Black Lion with Ironhide, a path of Energon followed; droplets here and there following the two like a shadow.
Keith greeted Jazz at the jaw of the Lion. Ironhide was losing energy faster than a miniature battery. The Voltron leader could almost see his optics dimming, but Keith took it as just fear clouding his vision. But the try for optimism did not keep the anxiety out of the way for very long.
Ironhide seemingly noticed. "It's...it's okay kid."
"I hope so." Keith responded. There were a million questions he wanted to ask his new friends. But things kept happening left and right, and the words couldn't make their way up in time.
Keith took off slower this time, since Ironhide was with him. Keith hadn't noticed, but the stars had started to fill the sky, specks of glitter in a vast black space. The last sliver of sun had slowly started to dissipate, hiding beyond the surface of the horizon.
The trees seem to continue forever, continuing on and on in one continuous strip of forest. It almost seemed like they spread all of the way to the horizons, bleeding into the lilac skies like blended paint.
What was strange was that, even though things seemed to last for infinity, time seemed to pass by like lightspeed. Keith's thoughts and constant pondering made minutes seem like seconds.
But even then, the questions filled Keith's mind, urging him to speak. But an empathetically logical side spoke up; Ironhide was not in the shape to answer a human's questions. Plus there was more to this situation for Optimus had still not been awakened yet.
Keith almost felt bad for leaving their original friend behind. But feeling disappeared as Keith started to spot the castle in the distance, as the cars below screeched to a standstill.
The feline glided down where the paladins were greeting Pidge. The leader walked back to check on Ironhide; sitting on the floor, knees bent, seemingly just trying to keep himself conscious. Ironhide looked over to Keith, and smiled slightly.
"You're a good flier." Loud coughs cut him off at the end of his sentence. He sighed as he leaned back against the solid metal wall once again.
"Thanks." Keith felt a sense of pride, but that pride depleted as the reality of Ironhide's condition came back to punch him. "Are you doing okay?"
"Kid, I have been through a lot worse, I promise." Ironhide's next sentence got cut off, as Jazz and Ratchet hurried in. The paladin leader rushed after them, leaping over the canines of the lion, his body moving faster than his mind could process. He almost fell onto the dusty ground, catching himself with sweaty palms.
Partly covered in dust he walked back toward the others of the Voltron team; walked back toward a challenge that was going to take more luck than just a finger crossing. A large electricity shock was planned to be sent to Prime in order for him to wake up.
Noone knew if it would work, so all servos and fingers were crossed, even if in just their minds.
