The bell that signaled the end of the day had finally rung. Y/n almost jumped out of her seat from excitement, she couldn't wait for her 'date' of sorts with Clay. They had hung out plenty of times before, but she loved every second she had with him. Y/n put all the notes she had handwritten in her binder, then into her bag. Just as she stepped out of her science classroom, she felt her phone buzz.
Clay
Hey, Y/n! I'm at my locker rn but meet me at the south entrance
You smiled at his text and quickly typed a response.
Alright I'll see ya there. Can't wait for some ice
cream! Not being able to wait any longer, Y/n slammed her locker shut and jogged over to the south entrance. She spotted Clay waiting on the steps, scrolling on his phone. Y/n stepped out of his sight and brushed her h/l hair back with her s/c hands, making sure it's presentable. She simply had to look her best on this special occasion. E/c eyes glimmering in anticipation, she pushed her way through the door and made her way to Clay.
"Ready for some ice cream?" Clay asked, pulling out the coupon to wave it around yet again.
"When am I not?" I replied with a grin. 'He's so adorable I can't believe we're gonna get ice cream together. Every little mannerism of his is just too cute!'
I watched from the shadows as I usually do. I gazed longingly at the beautiful girl I've been infatuated with ever since we sat next to each other in our first year at RHH during science. Although I have never spoken a single word to her, I'm sure she feels the same way with me. Noticing my Y/n seems happier than usual, I smile. That is, until I notice who she's smiling at. I hate that boy, he isn't good enough for her and is getting in the way of my darling and I. My frown quickly turns into a sneer as I observe them laughing and walking together. For protective purposes I decide to follow them and make sure that human scum doesn't do anything to the most precious girl in the whole world.
We walk side by side, cracking jokes to each other along the way. Clay guides us to the left and stops about 10 feet away from a turquoise building with pink signage. "So it's called The Dairy Corner," I say, "Sounds promising!"
"Yeah, that's what I though when I got the coupon from my mom. I'll race you there!" Clay exclaimed and started bolting to the little shop.
"Hey no fair!" I shout and chase after, not quite being able to catch up with his long strides.
Clay picks out some mango ice cream while Y/n chooses the f/i kind. The girl watched intently as a worker scooped out their treats. Brushing his raven hair back, Clay handed the tired looking cashier his coupon and a crumpled $5 bill.
"Cmon let's go take a seat and enjoy these." He snatches up the cones and we walk over to a more secluded table to enjoy them in peace.
I seated my self parallel to my crush, the soft faux leather seats feeling comfortable under me. Everything around us was either a bubblegum pink or turquoise, it was a bit of an eyesore but it was nicely themed. Tentatively licking, a smile of delight washes over me. I always believe that you could never go wrong with f/i. Almost devouring my frosty dessert, I look up to observe and mentally fawn over Clay. He was doing the same as me with his cone. Clay looked like a child with his animated expressions, happiness etched all over his face whilst eating. It was a juxtaposition to his broad shoulders and large build, somehow making it even cuter. A stray curl fell from on top of his head and into the ice cream. He chuckled and wiped it off, then readjusted his bun.
Clay looked up and asked me, "liking yours as much as I am with mine?" he took a slurp of the melting part, making sure not to let it drip. His deep chestnut eyes locked to mine, awaiting my response
"Duh! This is amazing, we should totally go again some other time." I responded enthusiastically.
He took the time to ponder what I said in an exaggerated way. "It won't be as fun without a cool coupon, but I'd love to go here again with you."
Love...
That word echoed through me. I could feel my cheeks start to burn slightly. I understand that it was more than likely platonic, but I couldn't help but get excited. 'Jeez, my crush might be bigger than I thought it was.' Noticing something else, I point to his crimson t-shirt, "you, uh, spilt some ice cream on your shirt."
"Oh, I guess I did!" He laughs, wiping it off with his finger then licking it.
Y/n giggled, finding his clumsiness almost charming. Another factor was the way he dressed. She loved how he insisted on keeping his black crocs in 'sports mode', and how he wore different variations of his normal outfit. Baggy cargo pants, skintight athletic t-shirts and a worn camouflage patterned zip up sweater. Y/n felt like he was like a cartoon character wearing the same thing everyday.
I crunched down on my wafer cone and finished it all. Throwing away my napkin, I turned to Clay and tilted my head when I saw him attempting to wipe his messy mouth, covered in what once was his sweet treat with his napkin. "I'll wait for you to clean up, then we can go." I sat back down in the chair, waiting for him.
"No, no, no! I don't wanna keep you waiting if you want to go home that's fine!" He paused from cleaning himself to shake his hands vigorously, emphasizing what he said.
"It's fine, Clay! I don't mind at all." My heart fluttered at how considerate he's being.
Evening was just starting as we walked back home. Clay had insisted he see me to my house first and he was chatting away about his planned trip to Turtle Lake this summer with his family. I listened to him intently, but something felt off. Seemingly instinctively, my head snapped to the side, but I saw nothing in the shadowed alleys we were walking past. They seemed almost... familiar? I shrugged it off, though. Maybe I ate too much ice cream or something. Turning my attention back to the tall boy, I decided to forget about that feeling and just enjoy my time with Clay. Finally reaching my salmon colored house, we stepped up to the cozy porch.
"I had a great time with you, Y/n." Clay said while I pulled out my house key.
"Same here! I'll see you tomorrow at school. Get home safe, okay?" I chirped. Clay waved me goodbye and went on his way. Letting out a satisfied sigh, I went to reminiscing about how great today was.
[That's all for today. I'm thinking of updating this story every couple of days or so. Be sure to stay tuned!]
