F/s - your favorite sandwich

The cafeteria was buzzing with hungry students. The distinct smell of warm food and grease was prominent in the air. Most tables were filled with chattering teens in their cliques, but to our luck Jasper and I managed to get a table all to ourselves. Slamming down his grey lunch bag, Jasper commented, "aren't we lucky? A table just for us! And it's nice and quiet, no loud groups of people near us."

He was right, the place where we settled was secluded in the corner. It was right against the window looking out onto the school's field. I shadowed Jasper, by setting my navy blue lunch container on the table. We both sat at the same time, facing each other from across the table. Underneath the table Jasper tapped a rhythm out with his foot, a contented smile on his face. I took note of how he always seemed kind of fidgety near me. It was kind of... cute? A moment passed before my rogue thought finally hit me. What was I thinking? I have a boyfriend who I've loved for the longest time and now we're finally dating. Sure, Jasper did save me and he's been super nice so far, but I can't possibly be falling for him when I have Clay!

"You okay?" I looked up from my lunch back to meet his concerned eyes.

Noticing that I had furrowed my brows tightly, I let them relax and gave him a small smile. "Yup, I'm good!" I snap open the box in front of me and pull out a container holding my lunch. Unlatching the main compartment, I pull out a f/s sandwich. Disgracefully I took a large bite out of my food, instantly filling my mouth with familiar flavors. There was a certain nostalgia correlated with this sandwich. It's my go to meal for school and brings back so many lunch time memories. Jasper copies my actions, unzipping his lunch bag and pulling out a black thermos. My mouth drops open in awe, "you have a hot lunch? Lucky!"

"Lucky? I guess you're right, but I've never really thought of that. If you'd like I can make hot lunches for you too." He pops open the thermos, "it would be no trouble."

"Oh my gosh, you really don't need to do all that for me. I'm fine with my sandwiches." I nibble on my lunch a bit more as Jasper pulls a spoon out of his bag. Letting my curiosity get to best of me, I peek over at the thermos' contents. It appeared to be filled with fried rice. Catching a whiff of the food's smell my mouth almost immediately watered. "Wow, that smells so good." I remarked excitedly.

Jasper smiled, "thanks, I made it myself." It was a large beam, one where I could see almost all of his teeth. I noticed that the canine tooth on his right side was very sharp whereas the one on the left side was normal like the rest.

As to not make him uncomfortable from gawking at the strange tooth, I converse with Jasper. "You made that all by yourself? That's awesome, man."

The boy looks down at his meal, then back up at me. "Do you want a bite?"

The question took me by surprise. "N-no! Erm, no really it's fine. I'd feel bad if I took your food." I stuttered out

"I insist. If you're nervous about germs or something I accidentally packed an extra spoon today so you can borrow that." Jasper played it off as if it were nothing, but his eyes were pleading. To prove it, he procures a thin metal spoon, a flower design etched on the handle. He holds it up along with the other spoon, also silver but no design. "Take your pick."

I contemplated rejecting the offer, but he was so insistent and the food looked and smelt really good. "Sure, why not." I sighed. Taking a moment to make my decision I point towards the one with the flowers on it.

He smirked gleefully. "Good choice! I like the flower one too." He said, taking a large scoop of the fried rice on the spoon. Jasper then promptly reached over the table to put the spoonful in front of my mouth.

I hesitated a moment, not expecting him to do that. Lifting up my hand, I reach for the utensil but to my surprise he pulled it back a little. Unamused I look up at him, a disapproving frown on my face. He snickers then offers the spoon yet again. I hesitate, not really wanted to be directly fed by him but not wanting to be rude. Mentally I battle with myself until admitting defeat. My mouth opens slightly, looking away sheepishly. He quickly take his opportunity and shoves the food in my mouth. Admittedly it was good. Savory, warm and a perfect blend of flavors and textures. He gently tugs at the utensil, pulling it out of my mouth while being careful not to hit a tooth. I chew the bite I was just given, "it was good but you really didn't need to do all that. I can feed myself y'know," I murmured.

"I know, I know!" He raised both hands in a joking surrender. "So... how was the fried rice?" He inquired.

"If I'm being completely transparent here, it was absolutely delicious!" I say, causing him to dip his head and raise his shoulders to gesture his thankfulness for my compliment.

The both of us ate the rest of our lunches in moderate silence, only occasionally making a bit of small talk. I watched my Y/n eat her food, the same sandwich as always. Her repetitiveness is adorable, but I would like it if I were able to make her better meals than some items stuffed between bread. Under the table, out of her sight I grip the spoon I feed her with so tightly that my knuckles turned white. This spoon which had once been just like the rest now contained something special, something so dear to me that I feel like I can never let it go. A piece of her, of her DNA. The scoop part was still warm and looked like it was damp from her saliva. I shuddered at the thought of  how I now have yet another part of her for myself. It's not every day I get such a treat. I shrink back into my large light blue sweatshirt with green horizontal stripes, stealing glances of Y/n packing away her container.

"We should do this again sometime, it was nice eating lunch with you." My heart skipped a beat at Y/n's offer.

I responded giddily, "yeah! It would be great to do this again sometime."

Y/n nodded along with me, "maybe next time Clay could join us." Just from mentioning him, she seemed to visibly melt.

"Mhm, sure that would be great." I muttered trying to mask my ill feelings towards my love's boyfriend.

"I'm sure you guy will get along great once you properly get to know each other. He's such a sweetheart. So kind and trust worthy." She gushed, beginning to stand up from her seat across from me as the bell signifying the end of lunch rang.

Trust worthy. But not trust worthy enough to tell him about our little secret?

As to not get caught, I hurriedly set the spoon I had gripped in my hand into an empty ziplock bag and then into my backpack. Zipping my bag up, I throw it over my shoulders and wave my goodbyes to my darling. Of course it's not a goodbye for me yet but I can't have her know that. It would be foolish of me to let her out of my sight for too long, plus I have a spare. If only she knew how much I watched over her, making sure she's safe and sound. I'm confident she would thank me. I bet her shitty boyfriend doesn't protect her like I do. Slipping into the dark areas of the room as always, I start to follow just a few feet behind the love of my life. My steps felt lighter with the satisfaction of making progress with Y/n. After such a failure, things seem to finally be looking up for our relationship.
