Chapter 7
Remembering
(Lo'ak POV)

If you were to ask how long I have been walking for with Räya clinging onto my back, I wouldn't be able to tell you. Each step I took seemed to go in vein as the tree never seemed any closer, but turning my head to look behind us my eyes could no longer see the vast ocean.

"You okay back there?" I questioned, I was concerned about Räya's health. I have no idea why she so suddenly wanted to leave her clan and go to the forest with me, but I knew not to push the subject as I noticed her discomfort when I asked earlier. "Yeah, I'm fine but are you okay? Surely your legs are tired we can take a break if you want." She asked me, her voice always managing to make me smile."no no I'm fine I promise we have not got much longer to go and plus it's getting darker by the minute we need the shelter." I said sharing my thoughts with her. I felt her slightly nod on my shoulder.
I'm so relieved that she can not see my face right now because if she could I'm positive she would be able to easily mistake me for a tomato.

My legs began to ache. We were so close to the tree I could run and we would be there in a few seconds but I didn't want to do that incase I hurt Räya's leg further. "Lo'ak put me down" Räya quietly said her tone worrying me.I stopped in my tracks before asking "Why whats wrong?" I tried looking at her over my shoulder. She raised her arm pointing at something my gaze followed her hand. My eyes landing on a creature that we call viperwolf. It's stance was threatening. Making eye contact with the creature seemed to piss it off even more. I took slow steps backwards trying my best not to alarm the animal. "Lo'ak what do we do?" Räya asked her voice shallow.
"Were gonna have to-" before I could finish my sentence the viperwolf charged in our direction. "Run!" I finished my sentence not leaving any time for the animal to close distance on us.

I felt Räya's arms tighten, I did the same tightening my grip on her legs. I refuse to let her get hurt. Again. I ran with all the energy that I had left, my destination being the tree, I went around in a circle trying to confuse the viperwolf before suddenly darting straight forward and making it to a giant root of the tree. From there I began to climb, whilst still holding onto Räya my legs doing all the hard work. I could feel my heartbeat in my ears making them ring slightly. My breathing was rapid almost matching the pace of my running, luckily for us the tree we decided on had roots that were not too steep so I could run up them fairly easily. However what was an advantage for me was also an advantage for the viperwolf which was still on my tail. "Lo'ak put me down now! We have to climb or were gonna get used as pup food!" Räya shouted her voice sounding just as scared as mine would. "But your leg" I said out of breath.
"It will heal!" She replied shouting once again. I groaned in frustration the last thing I want is for her to be in pain. "Fine!" I shouted back in defeat. I was still running up the root of the tree which was shortly about to stop providing me with the path to do so. "Ready?" I asked.
"Yes!" She replied back.
"1..." the viper wolf was gaining up on us I could almost feel its breath on my tail.
"2....." Räya's arms loosed slightly as she was preparing to jump on the trunk of the tree and use its vines to climb up. "3!" I shouted letting down Räya as best as I could given the circumstances. We both turned towards the trunk and jumped latching onto the given vines for our lives. We took no time in beginning the climb Räya was slightly slower than me but she was not far behind. I stopped climbing and glanced down to see the viperwolf trying its best to latch onto the trunk as well however it failed and it began to slowly fall down to the ground. Once it hit the ground it got back on its legs looking up and growing at us in anger.

I turned to face Räya my breathing staggered. She also turned to face me our eyes locked. I noticed her frightened expression was beginning to be replaced with a smile, I mirrored her doing the same. We both began to laugh out of relief. I was looking straight at her a smile on my face wondering how on pandora I managed to come across such a beautiful navi. Her hair was as beautiful as ever I noticed that the strands of hair that seem to cover her eyes fell out of the braids which made her look even more ethereal, if that is even possible. She had blueberry blue eyes, although if you look deeply enough you will find the small shimmer of yellow that leads to a whole other world. This girl is the person who makes me feel safe, she makes me want to protect her from anything and everything.
