Chapter 8
FlashbackI forcefully opened my eyes the morning sun shining down on everything. The first thing my eyes focused on was him. His sleeping face was so peaceful, not even a crinkle was displayed on his features.
I spent way to long staring at him that I only released what I was doing when I heard his morning voice say "your staring Räya" the rasp in his voice made me blush. He giggled as I moved my gaze away from him and turned so I was laying on my back. "How are you feeling?" Lo'ak questioned. "I'm good, I think, my leg still hurts but I think it's beginning to heal" I said answering his question. I could see that he nodded from the corner of my eyes . He sat up his gaze connecting with my leg. "From what I can tell I believe that you are right, its healing but you still need to rest it for a while" he said. I groaned in frustration, I had rested for a week or so and now I have to rest again, great.
"Time will fly by Räya you will be healed before you know it, and plus this time you have me to accompany you" Lo'ak said a smug grin showing on his irritatingly perfect face.Surprisingly Lo'ak was right time did fly by.We spent the past 2 weeks in each others company that clearly being the only thing we need. Lo'ak has told me an un-countable amount of stories my favourite being the one where he and his sister kiri were arguing over a fish, it makes me laugh every time. It is currently a few minutes before eclipse and Lo'ak still hasn't returned. He told me he was going to hunt some food for us I wanted to join him but he insisted that I stay here to fully let my leg heal, although it is now fully healed a scar is all that remains. My worries grew larger and the pit in my stomach expanded making it harder for me to breath. Suddenly I began to feel light headed the world then faded to black.
My eyes opened it was dark and the stars were shining it took me a minute to realise that I was not in the forest. I was with pearl in the vast sea. The sun began shining, covering the ocean in its rays of light. Pearl began to communicate with me she was scared and worried about something. Räya their coming what do we do. She said, I looked around trying to find out who she was talking about when I saw it. There was a large ship headed straight in our direction. "Pearl go, swim! Dive do something just move!" I rapidly said my voice shaking. I grabbed onto one of her fins and she dived swimming in the opposite direction of the human made machine.
I thought we got away when suddenly a loud boom appeared firstly on the left of us then the middle and then the right.Pearl cried out in pain the volume of the explosions hurting her hearing."Its okay just keep swimming" I signed to her trying to calm her down. My worry grew higher when I realised that there was a red spear like item attached to her back, it was blinking red and beeping in a pattern. I moved onto her back trying to take it out my strength alone not being enough and the force of the current was making it more challenging. I continued to pull with all my strength hoping that it would just pull out, my focus was broken when I felt a piercing pain shoot through my right leg. My grasp loosened off pearl her swimming away and my vision becoming a blur. The last thing that I saw was her body becoming limb and raising to the surface of the water.
"Räya!, Räya wake up please" Lo'ak's worried voice brought me back to reality.Upon realising that I remembered what happened I started sobbing clinging onto lo'ak as if I was afraid he was going to a evaporate."hey hey its okay I got you, your fine I got you" Lo'ak soothed me saying sweet words into my ear to calm me down. "I remember" I choked out
"I remember what happened" I felt the arms of Lo'ak tighten around me more, his actions helped but the empty feeling of loosing my soul sister was ripping me apart. "They killed her Lo'ak, the sky people killed her" I sobbed even more saying it aloud made it so much more real.
I cried myself into a sleep in the arms of my comfort that night.I woke up gasping for air, beams of sweat were covering my forehead. It happened again. I watched Pearl die again. I felt so lost what was I supposed to do without her, I once again began to cry this time it was a silent scream for help.I made not a single sound. My head is so wrapped up right now that I forgot I fell asleep on Lo'ak. I glanced around me and saw Lo'ak lied down behind me from what I could tell his position meant that he was cuddling me. I began to go into a daze. Räya you need to stop doing that he is gonna think your a freak. I turned away and slightly smiled to myself however the smile took no time in disappearing and being replaced with an awful crying face. I sniffled not being able to keep as quiet as I wanted. This caused Lo'ak's eyes to jolt open it was like he was struck by lightning with how fast he sat up. He didn't say word and just held me once again, lulling me to sleep whilst I cried what was left of my heart out.
