CHAPTER ONE
The Imaginary Trust

"Negotiations haven't started because the ambassadors aren't there? How could that be true?" Palpatine asked as his being was a hologram.

Tavia stood off to the side, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. She never liked Palpatine. There was something off about him. "I have assurances from the chancellor that his ambassadors did arrive. It must- handiwork- negotiate- ambassadors-" It ended in a distorted voice.

"Senator Palpatine. What's happening?" The Queen looked to Captain Panaka.

"Check the transmission generator." The guard checked the transmissions.

"A communications disruption can mean only one thing: invasion." Governor Sio Bibble informed everyone in the room.

"The Federation would not dare go that far." Queen Amidala responded firmly.

"In technicality, political and social groups conduct invasions countless times. It usually starts with greed and it ends with blood and torture, Your Highness." Tavia reasoned.

"The senate would revoke their trade franchise, and they'd be finished." Captain Panaka explained.

"But it's not entirely impossible..." Tavia muttered.

Captain Panaka sent her a look. "Who are you and who exactly sent you?" He questioned. Tavia didn't blame him for questioning her. She was new to the council of Naboo.

"Tavia Fairelon. Bail Organa sent me, sir." Tavia answered, looking him in the eyes. Captain Panaka only nodded in reply.

"We must continue to rely on negotiation." The Queen spoke.

"Negotiation? We've lost all communications. And where are the chancellor's ambassadors?" The Governor responded.

"This is a dangerous situation, Your Highness. Our security volunteers will be no match against a battle-hardened Federation army." Captain Panaka informed Queen Amidala softly.

The Queen looked forward and spoke firmly, "I will not condone a course of action that will lead us to war."

Tavia and Captain Panaka shared a look. While they might not be close, they were both protectors of royalty and politics. They both knew what would happen if things didn't go as planned.

Tavia stood beside the Queen, as she was on a protective stand. They both looked out the window to see the army.

    —

They all walked down the staircase. Tavia brought one of her fingers up to her hair, right where it was tied into the ponytail. They might have taken away her visible weapons, but not the one tucked underneath her hair.

"How will you explain this invasion to the senate?"

"The Queen and I will sign a treaty that will legitimize our occupation here. I have assurances it will be ratified by the senate."

"I will not cooperate." The Queen responded.

Of course, Tavia knew the one talking was a decoy. Her real name was Sabé.

"Now, now, Your Highness. In time, the suffering of your people will persuade you to see our point of view." Tavia rolled her eyes.

She walked alongside them, despite the urge to slice and dice the battle droids. All of a sudden, as soon as they walked out of the building, Tavia felt a strange sensation within her. It was like a burning force inside of her, aching her bones. Her brows furrowed as she continued walking. Her right hand slowly but cleverly took hold of the blade in her hair and kept it at her side.
