"I just don't think I'm comfortable with this," Brooke says desperately. "Anything could go wrong and I don't want anything to happen to you. Richie needs you here too."
"But think about it this way baby, everything will be better for us in the long run. He said he could offer me a job when it's all over with. I could finally be done working at the foundry. And ya know, I've kind of been missing the police work." I tell her, trying to persuade her to see it from my perspective.
"Police work in the military is a lot different, this is a lot more dangerous than anything you had to do before," Brooke reminds me.
"You trust me right?" I ask her, putting everything else to the side.
"Yes," she replies without hesitation.
"Then just please, trust me. I'm good at this type of stuff. I want to do it. And it'll be better for us all in the long run. Plus, it's a better career opportunity for me," I explain to her.
"I'm not going to like any part of this. You know I'm just going to be worrying about you the whole time," Brooke tells me.
"But?" I say, hopeful that she'll take my side anyway.
"But you know I always support you. No matter how crazy I think it might be," she lets out a deep sigh at the end of her sentence and raises an eyebrow at me.
"Thanks baby," I say as I pull her into a hug.
"Just be careful," she orders me as the hug ends.
"You know I will, I always am," I inform her.
"Okay. Well, I'm gonna go get some work done," she says before disappearing into her office.
I head down into my den in the basement and power on my xbox. As soon as my screen loads, I notice Calvin is online and I send him a chat invite.

The weekend seemed to go by in a flash. Brooke, Richie, and I just lounged around the house for most of the time, besides a quick trip to the grocery store. It was one of Brooke's few weekends she didn't have a photography session this month and she wanted to take the weekend to have a break.
I went into work like usual this morning, without any odd visits from Calvin this time. I had Bennett's business card occupying a spot in my wallet and I've been waiting for my break all morning so I can finally give him my answer. Mostly, I'm just curious what our next step will be after I accept.
I clock myself out for break and rush to the locker room to grab my lunch bag. I completely forget to warm up my food before I dip into a privacy break room and drop my bag onto the chair. Pulling out my wallet and phone simultaneously, I punch Bennett's number into my phone and listen as it begins to ring.
"Hello?" Comes a deep voice after only two rings.
"Mr. Bennett? This is Cameron Jenkins. You had told me to give you a call with my answer," I say into the phone.
"Ahh, yes, what have you decided?" He says in a voice that I detect as eagerness, though it's hard to tell his expressions over the phone. He just has the kind of voice that is monotoned most of the time.
"I'll do it," I inform him.
"Great!" He says and I can actually hear the inflection in his voice. "I'll admit, I wasn't sure if you'd accept, having your wife and son and all."
"I have a very supportive wife," I tell him.
"Good to hear. Would you be able to come down to the station later today to discuss the plan going forward?" Bennett asks.
"Absolutely," I say enthusiastically. "I get off work at two, I can come down immediately after if that works."
"Perfect, see you then," he says and then there's a click as he ends the call.
I slip my phone back into my pocket and proceed to eat my cold food with the short fifteen minutes I have left on my break.

The rest of my shift speeds by and I find myself at the front door of the police station just thirty minutes after I had clocked out. I swing the door open and see Anna sitting behind the front desk looking busy.
"Hello," I say with a smile and she looks up from her desk.
"Hello, here to see captain Bennett, correct?" She asks me.
"That's right," I confirm.
Anna tells me to hang out for a second while she lets him know I'm here and within less than a minute, the door Calvin and I had entered through on Friday swings open. Bennett pokes his head out and signals for me to follow him.
Calvin is waiting for us in the office when we arrive and I take a seat in the chair next to him.
"I thought you were working nights?" I ask him.
"I work whatever they need me too, and right now, they need me to work this case," Calvin replies.
It almost sounds like he's annoyed that his schedule got moved around, though I ignore his attitude and turn my attention back towards captain Bennett.
"Okay, so where do we start with this thing?" I ask, my question more directed towards Bennett since he's the one running everything.
"Well, this thing started a while ago. But, we've been keeping an eye on him recently, trying to track his every move. What we need you to do is set up a buy with him," Bennett tells me.
"That's it?" I say, thinking there would be more to it.
The crazy scenarios I came up with in my head had us breaking into Gavin's hideout, guns blazing. Getting into some big shootout, explosions going off left and right. Maybe some of that would come later.
"No, it won't be that easy," Bennett says with a little chuckle. "Gavin doesn't typically make deliveries himself. He usually has someone do that type of thing for him. Unless he knows his client personally."
"Well, I did work with him for a few months," I remind him.
"Yes, your brother told me. I'd like to play it safe though and make sure you two are on close enough terms for him to want to make a sale to you personally," Bennett informs me.
For a moment, I try to think of what he might mean by 'close enough'. By no means were Gavin and I close friends during the time we worked together. Although, we weren't enemies or anything like that either.
"And how are we gonna do that?" I ask curiously.
I look over to Calvin who has been sitting silently in his chair this whole time, not saying a single word. I wonder what his role in this mission is, then I decide it's probably just to keep an eye on me and make sure I don't mess this whole thing up somehow, or worse.
"Like I said, we've been keeping an eye on him, tracking his movements and whatnot. He makes frequent trips to the mall. He must be in-between jobs right now, or maybe he's just making enough from the drug sales to not have to work. Anyway, he's been there just about every other day as of late. What we're gonna do is stage a coincidental meetup between you two for you guys to chat it up. And, if it seems you guys are on good enough terms, we'll possibly have you set up a sale with him," Bennett tells me, using air quotes around the word 'coincidental'.
"Okay," I say, letting him know I'm keeping up with him so far. "So, when is this going to happen?"
"As soon as we can make it happen," says Bennett.
