Cameron - One Day Before The Drug Bust

My nerves are at an all time high as I stand outside the mall next to the movie theater entrance, waiting for Gavin to show up. Captain Bennett's trusted me with such a big responsibility and I cannot let him down. He was very strict when he told me to text Gavin and ask him to meet me somewhere private. Not to buy any drugs from him but to set up the next part of our mission. The part we've had to try so hard to keep Calvin in the dark on.
It's been hard, I'll admit, but I know it's better this way. The less people that know about it, the less chances there are of something going wrong. I still can't believe Captain Bennett had the nerve to ask me about it the very first time we met. I guess that's what you have to do as a captain though, you have to make the tough decisions. Calling me back into his office to 'give me his business card' was a pretty good cover. Calvin hardly asked any questions about it, which made it easier for me to keep it from him. The only person Captain Bennett told me I was allowed to tell was my wife. It took a little while to convince her to let me go through with this but it'll all work out. I just have to play my part perfectly, with no mistakes.
Being the middle of the day, the movie theater entrance is hardly ever used by anyone so we don't have to worry about being overheard.
This is quite possibly the biggest part of our mission. If I mess this up, it would bring the whole operation to a screeching halt. The Captain and I have gone over this part a countless amount of times to make sure I had it down. This time there is no wire, no backup, just me and the drug lord of the city.
"I thought you didn't want to meet until tomorrow. I don't do this type of shit in broad daylight," Gavin says when he finally walks up to me from the parking lot.
"This isn't about that. I need your help," I say in a loud whisper, even though there's no one else around.
The look of confusion is almost immediately sprawled across Gavin's face.
"What are you talking about?" Gavin asks suspiciously.
"I need you to help me fake my death," I tell him, deciding the best way to go about this is to just lay it all out there right away.
Gavin is taken aback by the bluntness of my request. "What the fuck are you talking about?"
"Look, the cops came to me about you. They're the ones that are making me set up the buy with you," I begin to say but Gavin cuts me off before I can say anything else.
"I knew this shit didn't sound right. When you just so happened to run into me the other day, I knew there was something up with you," Gavin says accusingly.
"Calm down, listen," I say, holding my hands up to get him to quiet down so I can explain myself. "I wouldn't be telling you this if I didn't think you could help me. I can help you too. We can both get out of this," I pause as I try to read how Gavin is responding to this so far. He still looks confused.
He hesitates for a moment before finally saying anything. "What do you have planned?" He asks skeptically.
"Okay, so the cops want me to help them take you down during this drug bust. I would just back out of it, but my brother found out I was using drugs and he's the one running this whole operation. So, if I back out, he'll make sure I go down for aiding a criminal and who knows what other shit. All I know is that he'll put me away for a long time if I don't help them with this," the words come out of my mouth so fast it's hard to even keep up with myself, but I need Gavin to think I'm in a state of panic. More importantly, I need him to think he's my only way out.
"I could just back out right now and save my own ass," Gavin suggests, raising an eyebrow at me.
"That's the thing, they've been watching you for a long time now. If you tried to back out or anything of the sort, they'd come straight for you and take you down the hard way instead," I warn him. The one important thing Captain Bennett told me was to make sure Gavin thought he had no other option except to help me.
"Shit," Gavin says and then takes a long pause to think to himself. "What's your plan then?"
"I need to go into hiding to get away from the cops. So, if you help me fake my death, I'll return the favor by coming to work for you," I watch as Gavin contemplates this offer and then nods his head for me to continue talking. "So, here's what I'm thinking. A drug bust gone wrong," I say, waving my hands in the air like it's the title of some movie. "You pull a gun on me and pop off a couple shots, just make sure you fucking miss."
"And if I don't?" Gavin says, interrupting me.
"If you don't? Let's just say if my lifeline doesn't hear from me within twenty-four hours following these events, your getaway plan gets leaked to the police and you'll spend the rest of your life in prison for murder instead of selling drugs," I warn him. The thing he doesn't know is that Captain Bennett is my lifeline, but that's something I intend to keep to myself.
Gavin raises his eyebrows and then nods his head as if he respects my well thought out plan. What he doesn't know is that this whole plan was thought out by the Captain of the police force, not me. All I had to do was memorize it to tell Gavin.
"Okay, so if I miss, there won't be any blood. Not to mention you'll still be conscious," Gavin points out.
"You just let me take care of that. The police station has a lot of resources I can get my hands on without anyone noticing," I inform him. In reality, Captain Bennett is going to be supplying me with everything I need to pull this off.
"Okay, so, the getaway?" Gavin asks.
"Right, I chose Riverfront Park because there's only one entrance and exit point. There's also a train that blocks that road every few hours, remember? So, once the shots have been fired, you peel out and if we're lucky, that train will block everyone else in. Even if it doesn't, I'll make sure to mess with the cop car to make sure they can't follow you," I tell him. Honestly, Captain Bennett will be in charge of making sure Gavin's not followed.
"How are you going to get away?" Gavin asks suspiciously.
"You can buy damn near anything online. Even a fake lookalike body," I say with a smirk. This is probably the biggest lie I've had to tell him. I don't actually know if you can buy that kind of thing online, I just hope it was enough to convince Gavin. Captain Bennett is really doing all of the complicated behind the scenes work. I don't have to worry about where to get a fake body from, that's his job. "When it's done, I'll meet you at the quarry, off of Eighth Avenue."
Gavin ponders the whole plan for a moment before finally coming to agreement with me. "All right," he says. "Let's make you disappear then."
