Across the aisle
Lays a human
No a person
No a creature
No, a man
Oh no, I can see clearly now.
Across the aisle
Lays a woman
Across the aisle
Lays a damsel
Across the aisle
Lays a princess
No, no, across the aisle lays a Queen
And not just any queen
A black queen
Whom skin radiates beauty
In her eyes is love shown
In her lips did cupid forget his arrow
Because across that aisle lays a beauty
Oh thank the gods that I’m black
Thank the heavens that I’m black
Praise Almighty that I’m black
Allahu Akbar that I’m black
I am black and I am a woman
And I am not a poor black woman
I am not a weak black woman
I am not a defenseless black woman
I am
A woman who was created from a man
I am the shield of my family
I am a goddess blessed by God and Allah
My color is my pride, my shield, and my wealth
My gender is my strength and my biggest flex
Me being a woman doesn’t make me sad
It doesn’t make me cry
And I know that they’re so many people
To them being a woman is a curse
An abomination
And they hate themselves
But sisters
We know we are beautiful
We know we are damsels
We know we are not valued
We know we are being insulted day by day
We know we are undervalued
But sisters
It is said to know your worth
It isn’t easy to know your worth
It’s hard to learn your worth
But I know my worth
I know being a woman and being black is a taboo in some places
But I am a woman
And I am a black woman
And I am proud of it.
