BLACK MEGAPOLIS: A poem by Jeremiah Aminu

A land of filth and fear;
A land bearing numerous tales to tell.
A vehicle without a known destination,
that walks down the path of degradation.

A land of the high and mighty;
A land of gross inequality.
A land that feeds on the people's desperation and needs,
while the people wear the streets as outfits.

A land of aborted dreams,
punctuated with people under a barbarous regime.
With pain and pitiful pallid eyes,
the song of change and freedom they sing.

However, Black Megapolis is a land of faith and hope;
Hope of fulfilled dreams, aspirations, and freedom.
And on the day of its actualisation,
its citizens will gladly sing, "Arise O compatriots."
