As the days went by, Ivy made a full recovery from her injuries sustained in the accident. Meanwhile, Ivan had made the decision to permanently move here with Ruby. Ruby, Ivan's girlfriend, was a pleasant addition to our lives. She was kind-hearted and easy to get along with. I found myself enjoying her company whenever she visited.
Summer arrived, and with it came the closure of schools. Noah and I continued to communicate primarily through chat messages. It became a daily ritual for us to share updates about our days, discussing everything from mundane events to our deepest thoughts and feelings. It felt like we were best friends, confiding in each other without hesitation. However, I made sure to keep our conversations private, knowing Elena's disapproval of Noah's influence on me.
Despite Elena's concerns, I felt comfortable around Noah, and it seemed like he felt the same way. He opened up to me about his past, revealing that he had merely adopted a tough exterior to mask his vulnerabilities. I was surprised to learn that I was the first person who saw through his façade. It was a revelation that strengthened our bond further.
Eventually, Elena persuaded me to meet her at our favorite café, Moonscape Café. As we settled into our usual corner seats by the windows, Elena wasted no time in bombarding me with questions about how I had been coping.
"So, first tell me, how are you?" she asked, her concern evident in her voice.
"I'm okay, Elena, doing better than before," I replied with a faint smile.
"And how's everything with you?" I inquired, genuinely interested in her well-being.
"It's been boring without you, Sadie. This is the first summer we've spent apart, and it's just not the same without you," Elena confessed, a hint of longing in her voice.
"I missed you too, E. To be honest, it was a bit lonely spending the summer cooped up in my room, but having an emotional company , someone to talk to made it bearable," I admitted.
"Oh, my God. Sadie Lily Williams is officially in a relationship! I'm happy for you, S," Elena exclaimed teasingly, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
I chuckled at her remark. "No, no, Elena, you've got it all wrong. I'm not in a relationship. Remember, I'm against them," I clarified, not wanting her to jump to conclusions.
"Okay, so if you're not in a relationship, then how the hell did you have 'emotional company' from someone? And who is that someone?" Elena pressed, her curiosity piqued.
"It's Noah. We've been texting throughout the summer break," I confessed, bracing myself for Elena's reaction.
"No, no, Sadie. Noah? Seriously? Out of all the boys, you chose him? I told you he's trouble," Elena exclaimed, her brows furrowing in concern.
"Elena, Noah is not trouble. He's a good guy. He treated me nicely over the summer break," I defended Noah, unwilling to let Elena misconstrue his intentions.
"Sadie, are you seriously defending him?" Elena asked, her tone serious.
"Yes, Elena, I am. And if I'm doing that, there must be a good reason behind it," I replied firmly, unwavering in my support for Noah.
"Right. I just want you to stay happy, S. If Noah makes you happy, then let it be. Though I still don't like him. He'll have to prove to me that he's good for you," Elena said, a hint of laughter in her voice.
"That he will not do. We are just friends, E. Nothing more. Never will we be more than friends. He doesn't do girlfriends. Have you ever seen him with a girl?" I pointed out, hoping to dispel any notions of romance between Noah and me.
