Gideon POV
I could tell she was embarrassed by how she kept her head down. That son of bitch really rattled her. And if he thinks I didn't notice him waiting for her and that creepy fucking smile, he has another thing coming. This thing just got real and I will protect Camille at any cost.
I drove her home and helped her into the shower. I washed and dried her off then put on one of her nightgowns. She did not look good. I sat her in the recliner on my lap and rocked her until she calmed down.
Eventually, she stopped shaking and her muscles relaxed. Gabriel was on the couch looking pissed.
"Stop making that face," I say.
"I didn't know I was making a face," he says.
"You look pissed off," I say.
"Then it's appropriate," he says.
"Just stop," Camille says. "I need to think."
"What's there to think about? Your fight or flight instincts were stronger than your need for revenge," I say.
"You completely froze," Gabriel says. "I think we need to do some immersion therapy. We have a fire pit outside that we can use."
"That might actually work. We can change the smell to something less frightening," I say.
"That's not all that went wrong. You guys have me so comfortable that I let everything slip. I had no wig, no concealer and Gideon got me freaked out about getting caught." She says. "I can't be with you guys anymore. You're making me weak."
"No we don't. You're becoming stronger as your real self with no need for disguises. That's not a bad thing," Gabriel says.
"Yeah right. That's DNA at the scene," she says.
"Let's go to bed. We can discuss this further on our ride tomorrow," Gabriel says.
"Where are we going tomorrow?" I ask.
"I don't know where you're going but we're going to see her family," Gabriel said.
"I can go. I took off," I say. "I wasn't sure how today would go."
Camille came to sleep with me first. I was surprised when Gabriel came to wake us up. She must have slept well with me. Then again, it was 3am.
We got into the car and I drove first. Camille put her address in the GPS in case she fell asleep. She did about an hour into the drive.
A faster route popped up and I clicked it. It took us off the highway and down some dirt roads. I was starting to get nervous when Camille woke up.
"Where are we?" She asked.
"There was a quicker route to your house so I took it."
"A quicker-," she starts.
She took a look around and says,"no no no. Stop the car."
I go to press the brake but nothing happens. She takes the keys out of the ignition and it still doesn't stop.
"What's going on?" I ask.
"The witch lives here. She must have lured you in," she says.
She tries to jump out of the car but the doors won't open. The windows won't roll down. We're completely trapped.
"Listen to me. Don't believe everything she says. Don't offer her anything. Don't eat or drink anything. She obviously wants something and we're not going to give it to her," she says.
The car comes to a stop in front of a moldy looking one room cabin. The doors open and we step out. Gabriel is still out cold.
