Camille POV
I went to the police station to see the detective working on the case. His name, I was told, was Detective Walsh.
I was led back to his desk and waited for him to get off the phone. He motioned for me to sit down in the chair next to his desk, which I did.
I could see his board which had a number of bodies on it. He was connecting Robert to these cases. I just needed to know that he was the one who was responsible for my rape and my father's murder.
As soon as he got off the phone he says, "how can I help you Ms. Reynolds?"
"I need to know if this man was responsible for my rape and my father's murder seven years ago," I say
"Was there DNA collected at the scene? Where did this happen? We can have the file sent over here but that might take some time," he says.
"Well I have a daughter," I say. "I figure you could test it against her."
"Bring her to this address. I'll let them know you are coming. How are you holding up? That's got to be difficult being assaulted by the same man twice," he says.
"Allegedly," I said.
"Well we know he did this time. The DNA proves it. Whether he did six years ago, I can't tell you yet," he says.
"Wait what? DNA?" I asked.
"Yes. The DNA from your rape kit came back as a positive match," he says. I don't know how you were able to get out of that, but I want to thank you again. He was a vicious man and deserves what he got.
"Thank you detective. I'm going to fetch my daughter now," I say getting up to leave.
Gideon said almost. Was he lying to me? Is that why he didn't want to talk about it? I knew I could never ask him. If he wanted to tell me, he would.
I just wish I could comfort him. To let him know he's not alone. I'm a survivor too. There's many of us out there.
I drove home. Gabriel was in the living room when I opened the door. He was sitting in the recliner holding Julian.
"Is Gideon home?" I ask.
"No. He went on a diaper run. He should be back soon. What's up?" He asked.
"I was actually wondering if you could go pick up Kelsey for me. I want to have her DNA tested against the murderer just to know for sure," I say.
He gets up and hands me the baby. "Of course I can get her."
"Thank you so much," I say.
"It will be nice having her here," he says. "Does she need a car seat or something?"
"No. Just make sure she sits in the backseat," I say. "If you want to stay the night you can. Just let me know."
"It'll be a six hour drive," he says.
"Eight to ten with traffic," I reminded him.
"Don't worry. I'll see you later," he says, grabbing his keys.
He kissed me before leaving. I sat in the recliner looking at my baby. He was such a sweet little guy. I fed him, burped him then put him in his bassinet.
I started to clean the kitchen when Gideon got home. He came and kissed me on my cheek. I turned and kissed him on the mouth. He turned his head saying he wasn't in the mood.
"I went to the store for diapers and got all this crap," he says. "Oh and they had your favorite ice cream there so I picked some up."
"Thank you. That was very thoughtful," I say. "Gabriel went to pick up Kelsey for me. They're going to test her against his DNA."
