▸ You were ashamed, sort of speak, as you sank deeper into the couch, surrounded by empty snack wrappers, trying to shake off the wave of embarrassment that had settled over you since getting home.

You'd devoured most of your candy and sipped on your milkshake while mindlessly watching your favorite YouTuber on the TV, but the distraction wasn't enough to stop you from mentally slapping yourself—twice.

Honestly, you had to control the urge to do it for real.

How could you have been so clueless? You didn't even get Billy's or Freddy's number. Friends exchanged numbers, right? And you were friends now... weren't you? You cringed, second-guessing everything that had happened during the day.

Sure, they hadn't asked for your number either, but maybe they didn't want it yet. Maybe they thought you didn't want to stay in touch.

The thought made your stomach sink a little, and a groan escaped your lips as you buried your face in your hands.

To say you were lonely was an understatement. The house felt especially quiet now, and the boredom was starting to eat away at you.

You had half a mind to go back outside just to do something, but after what happened earlier—the close call with danger, the mugging you'd narrowly escaped—you were in no rush to step out the door.

Staying home felt safer, at least for now.

You sighed, wishing you had done things differently earlier.

As if on cue, your phone buzzed, pulling you from your thoughts. You glanced at the screen and saw a notification that made your heart skip a beat.

The superhero in red had uploaded a new video—or, at least, the person recording him had.

You couldn't help but smile at the notification, your heart lifting at the familiar sight.

Something about those videos made you feel like a kid again, the same sense of awe and wonder that had once filled your days when you believed anything was possible. Every time you watched them, it was like those butterflies in your stomach took flight again.

It didn't make sense to you why these simple videos had such an effect, but you were starting to grow used to the feeling.

You clicked on the notification, eager to see what new antics the superhero had been up to. But as the video loaded, your mind wandered back to Billy and Freddy.

The image of Billy rolling his eyes at Freddy's small remarks popped into your head, and a soft laugh escaped your lips.

His sarcastic comments, the way his brow furrowed when Freddy got on his nerves—there was something endearing about it.
