I fall to my knees again catching my balance with my right hand. There were cuts on my arm and on my hands. I didn't know what to do but to shoot for my defense. After I tried shooting him, he held me down on the floor.
I could barely move. My tears blurred my vision as I tried as hard as I could to get him off me but he was too strong. He stares at my neck where I am wearing the locket my mother gave me and rips it off my neck and throws it across the room. I was livid. I lifted up the gun.
With all my strength I pushed him off me and he stumbled to the floor and dropped his gun. I point the gun in his direction and pick up my locket. My blood turned hot with rage. I wanted to pull the trigger so bad but something inside me couldn't. He looks up at me with his hand up blocking the gun. "Touch my stuff again. I'll do it!" I threatened him. But he smirks and puts both of his hands up.
After that he spoke.
"Don't do it, Leah." I stare at him in shock. "How do you know my name?" I step closer to him with the gun still pointed at him.
"I know everything about you." The man gives me creepy vibes. My arm tenses up and I feel more enraged. I was shaking. "How's your mother doing? I bet she's rotting on the streets." I was about to pull the trigger, until he brought up my mother.
Suddenly I hesitated. I stood there in shock again. The flashback of my mother played in my mind again as tears started streaming down my face. "How do you know my mom?!" I break down in more tears. I couldn't move.
I wanted to shoot him but I couldn't. He shot my mother. He smashed into our car before it flipped over. I throw myself down to the floor in a pool of tears dropping the gun to the floor. The man stood up and picked up the gun and walked next to me before I could grab a piece of mirror from the floor.
"Don't do it, you know how this will end." His voice sounded so familiar. He sounded angry.
I wanted to push him but he grips my wrist so hard, it turns red and white. He almost pulled the trigger as his grip got tighter. I hear Zoe's voice.
"Let go of her! Get away from her. Or I will shoot!" Zoe holds the gun at the intruder's head until his grip on me loosened. The man smirks and attempts to hit me with a piece of mirror, but luckily he misses.
I quickly kick him in his groin and he falls on the floor in pain. I ran to Zoe's arms and she wrapped her arms around me tightly. "Are you okay, Leah! I'm so sorry I didn't believe you earlier." I squeeze her tighter.
"Thank you." She nudges me and rolls her eyes. "No, thank you. Thank you for trying to warn us before. Without you, we'd all be dead in the fire." I realized I still had the gun in my hand so I carefully put it down.
"Let's get out of here."
"Good idea." I grabbed her wrist and took a step toward. With Zoe behind me.
The intruder was nowhere to be seen after police cars and ambulance trucks showed up. Zoe and I got out of the school safely and everyone else was safe. The fire was out but the whole school was destroyed.
Zoe and I made our way to the police station and I spotted my aunt Sofia standing by a policeman with a clipboard in her hands and holding her phone with her neck. Everything went fine until I heard another gunshot. The whole school disappeared right before my eyes. Zoe's voice suddenly changed like she was fading. She shook me, saying my name over and over and over.
"Leah! Wake up! Wake up!" I wake up to Zoe and Devon leaning over my desk. They both looked concerned.
"What! Wait, what's happening?" Zoe rubbed my arm as I put my hands over my forehead. I was so confused. What just happened?
"Are you okay? You fell asleep after Mr. Collins assigned our algebra worksheet. You slept through the entire class period" Zoe explained. Devon and I made eye contact. Everyone else around the room stared at us. That's when I realized it was all just a dream.
"So, that was all just a DREAM?! I felt relieved for a moment but I glared back up at Zoe and Devon still standing over my desk, making sure I was alive. I didn't realize I was so tired.
"Oh my gosh, thank goodness!" I whisper out loud. Devon gives me a big smile and shrugs his shoulders. So does Zoe.
