Rapunzel Relived

Trapped in a cage, a bird am I,

With parents as my sweet keeper, nigh.

Bound by financial woes and cultural ties,

My life is not my own, but filled with sighs.

I watch as other children play,

Hanging out and having fun each day.

They speak of adventures, and dreams to come,

While I am left to stare, and ponder some.

I long to spread my wings and fly,

To experience life, and reach for the sky.

Beautiful cage that holds me, is suffocating,

Leaving me with nothing but aching.

I see the world outside, through the bars,

Wondering when it will be my turn to have stars.

I listen as my parents make excuses,

For why I cannot leave, and join the queues.

As I sit here, feeling low,

I know deep down, time comes, I'll go.

Though trapped in this cage, I'll never lose hope,

For one day, I'll break free and learn how to cope.

And when I do, I'll fly away,

Free from this cage, and from this dismay.

For I am more than just a poor little bird,

Trapped in a cage, with my parents as my lord.

I am a dreamer, with aspirations to see,

The world outside, and all it has to be.
