6. AVA

Dancing queen by Abba was playing quite loudly through the speakers in the living room, while Dolores and I were finishing decorating my birthday party. Blue and white balloons were hanging from the ceiling, Dolores set up the tequila table again, snacks were everywhere and the fridge was filled with every alcohol imaginable.

After finishing decorating, it was my turn to change into something birthday girl appropriate. A shower and twenty minutes later, I was still standing in front of the closet picking through clothes. Another ten minutes passed by and I had two choices in front of me, either a short black satin dress or a similar red one, which hugged my body more.

An exaggerated sigh escaped my mouth, I picked both up and barged into Dolores's room.

"Which one?" I said, holding both dresses in front of me.

"Black,"

"Thanks,"

I went back to my room to finish getting dressed, and apply as little makeup as possible. I heard my door open and I saw Dolores already dressed with a gift in her hands.

"Feliz cumpleaños," Dolores said, giving me a box with a bow on top of it.

"Gracias," I replied, hugging her.

Dolores was waiting expectedly for me to open it up, there was a Gossip girl shirt, a few books, and a ticket to see The Weeknd.

"Are you for real? I get to see The Weeknd?"

"Yes, you have no idea how long I was hiding this one, I'm glad it's over,"

Tears started forming in my eyes, and I was never more grateful for waterproof mascara. After collecting my thoughts and calming down, we went downstairs and Pedri was already pouring himself something to drink.

"Ay hermanita, feliz cumpleaños," he said, giving me a hug which I returned.

"Gracias Pedwi,"

"Don't call me Pedwi,"

"Sure thing Pedwi," I laughed a little bit.

"Go ahead open it," he said giving me his gift.

"No way," I gasped, it was an FC Barcelona 2013/14 jersey and with my surname and number 15 on it, as the day I was born. "How?"

"I have my ways," he replied, hugging me again.

"I also told Gavi to stop by," he said and I just nodded, I haven't seen him since his birthday party. I couldn't avoid him since he practically spends more time here than at his own house.

The house started filling with more and more people, some I'd known since kindergarten some from high school. My oldest brother Fernando decided to make an appearance, I was surprised he was actually in Spain and not traveling around the world like I'm used to it.

I caught a whip of brown hair and a smile you couldn't miss even if you tried, Gavira entered the house like he owns it. As he made his way to me, I noticed he was hiding something behind his back.

"Feliz cumpleaños Ava," he said holding something I thought would never see from him, in front of me. It was a four-pack of Red Bull, maybe I manifested it.

"Gracias Gavira,"

"Still on the last name basis?" he smirked and crossed his arms over his chest.

"Or I can call you my brothers girlfriend. Choose,"

"Would rather not," he laughed shaking his head. "What are we drinking tonight?"

"Whatever you want,"

"Tequila it is then," he actually wants me to die on my birthday, the audacity he has.

"I'm storing these somewhere safe and then we can go drink tequila," I replied and decided to put the pack in my closet, that seems like the safest place tonight.

"Ready?" I asked Gavira as I returned to my party.

"Absolutely,"

Dolores was already out of one bottle of tequila as she was pouring it nonstop, and sometimes pouring herself a shot or two even though she was drinking beer tonight.

"There's my birthday girl, and with Gavi out of all people," she didn't look that surprised as she was probably on some sixth sense level. "Two shots coming right up."

"Make it four," Gavi said quickly and she poured four shots.

I prepared salt on the back of my hand and also showed Gavi how to do it, and lemon in the same hand, a shot of glass in the other.

"You ready?"

"Cheers," I replied, already licking the salt off my hand and swallowing the shot down my throat, and taking a bite out of my lemon as fast as I could. Yet I was trying my hardest not to cough because of that shot.

"Tequila is not for the weak, you know?" I laughed as Gavira was almost choking on it.

"Don't worry, the first shot is always like that," Dolores tried to soothe Gavira and not hurt his masculinity even more. "Do a second one now, you'll see it won't be that bad."

The second shot was easier to handle and Gavi wasn't coughing this time. We kept on going with the shots, and I stopped counting after the second one. I wasn't feeling that drunk but I was just waiting for the tequila to kick in and take me away.

At some point, Gavira already started propping himself on the table after a few shoots, and I would be doing the same yet my balance was still intact.

"It's time for my annual birthday speech," I yelled at the top of my voice to Gavira and Dolores, and made my way to the microphone I had set up, ready for this opportunity.

"Hello, is this thing even working?" I asked myself after talking to the microphone, tapping it a few times till it finally made some noise.

"Can't believe I'm a year older, time really works in weird ways," a hiccup suddenly escaped my mouth, and my hand was over it immediately.

"Sorry for that," everyone started laughing even more. "First of all would like to say thank you to everyone that is here tonight, to celebrate me again together. I am very grateful I have great people surrounding me through this life, Fernando and Pedri are literally the best brothers I could ever ask for. I wouldn't be where I am without Dolores, who is always down for everything that I want to do, my partner in crime always and forever."

I could feel the tequila kicking in, and it was the most inappropriate time ever.

"Also Pablo Gavira finally gave me my red bull back, so that gets him off of my enemies list I suppose," tears started streaming down my face, and I probably look like a big baby. "Life is too short to hold grudges, we should always live like it's the last day and make the most of it. I have no idea how this became a life coaching speech, I'm drunk. Thank you."

"Off the enemies list? Wasn't even aware I was on it," Gavira had to comment on my tequila speech.

"Shut up, we taking another shot,"

After too many shoots and regrettable speech, my head was spinning, and my hands clinging to the table as if my life depended on it. It kinda does. Gavira was practically the same, and I was mentally praying that he wouldn't vomit this time too.

After a few more shots, the picture went blank.

I woke up the next day with the worst headache I ever had in my entire life. If I could remember what happened last night, besides me and Gavi taking shot after shot, would be nice to have my memory back.

This headache is making me promise, I am never drinking tequila again. Turning to the other side, my eyes went wide as I saw who was sleeping next to me. A quiet scream escaped my mouth.

This is not happening.
