10. AVA
A few weeks of school passed by with lightning speed and whatever I started with Nicco was going somewhere. Pedri has training tonight, which I was not allowed to go to since the last incident with Gavira. So that was when I had the idea to invite Nicco over and bring pizza.
I needed some break from the first week of school and also Gavi, who has been acting even weirder after the last time I got drunk. Maybe I should stop drinking.
The doorbell woke me from my thoughts and with a fast-paced walk, I was opening the door a few seconds later. Nicco smiled, showing his perfect teeth and I could feel my heart beat faster.
"Good evening," he said, holding two boxes of pizza up.
"Come in, I have everything set up already in my room,"
"Your room huh?" he smirked a little.
"Shut up," I said, smacking him on the shoulder.
"Careful, I could've dropped pizza,"
"What a shame," I replied, opening the door to my room. Netflix was already started on my tv, and soon we were laying next to each other, eating pizza and watching Mama Mia. I had to beg for about ten minutes so my comfort movie would be chosen.
"Next time we are spinning the wheel with movies," he broke the silence, looking at me. "There is no way in hell I am ever watching this."
"Did you know there's a part two, so we absolutely have to watch it," I grinned at him.
"No," he groaned.
"Yes, pretty please," I said, making the best puppy eyes I could pull up.
"Fine," he sighed, "But not tonight."
Happy with the confirmation of watching the second movie together another night, I diverted all of my attention to the movie that was playing at the moment.
My eyes started closing more and more, but my phone started ringing like crazy from the notifications. I checked what was blowing it up and it was Dolores with her messages.
'We are coming home'
'Hello, are you there?'
'I forgot to text sooner, we are not that far away'
'I swear to whatever is above us if you don't answer soon'
My eyes were quickly wide opened, typed a quick reply to Dolores so she would calm down a little. I was up on my feet in seconds, turning the light on, and am probably looking like a lunatic right now.
"What?" Nicco asked, looking dazzled.
"Pedri is coming home, and they aren't that far away. Dolores forgot to text me sooner," I ran a hand through my hair, and Nicco stood up, walked over to me, and hugged me.
"Sounds like her," he mumbled against my hair, "C'mon walk me out? And we'll have a redo and watch the first and the second movie."
"Deal," I smiled at him, and we made our way downstairs. Nicco and I looked into each other's eyes, leaning closer and closer and finally our lips touched. His lips warm and soft against my own, and my heart beating like I just ran a marathon, it felt like dreaming.
But dreams always come to an end, most of the time with an alarm clock but mine ended with the front door opening. I pulled away from Nicco, my heart beating even faster now as I looked at Pedri, Gavira, Dolores, and on top of that Ferran. If the earth ever wanted to swallow me, now is a perfect time.
Dolores and Ferran were just barely holding their laughter in, Pedri looked very confused but his overprotectiveness is about to kick in any minute now. What confused me the most was definitely Gavira, who had a frown plastered on his face and if looks could kill, Nicco wouldn't be here with us. He shook his head and stormed off to the terrace door and slammed them behind him.
What is his problem?
"Can someone please explain what is happening? The math ain't mathing," Pedri asked looking from Nicco and me to Dolores and Ferran.
"That's because you aren't good at math,"
"Irrelevant. Who is this?" He pointed to Nicco like some object. "And why wasn't I aware he was coming over? For all we know he could be a serial killer."
"He is not," I fired back, Lori and Ferran have already transferred to the couch with a bag of chips, enjoying the free drama.
"How do you know? Ava, you are being irresponsible and you are my younger and only sister. What if something happened to you? I just want you to be safe and happy." He started with his rant, and I was definitely not in the mood.
"I'm not a serial killer and Ava is completely fine," could he not shut up and just take the rant like a normal person?
"Qué cabrón, shut up," Pedri snapped at Nicco and turned to me. "You are living under my roof, our parents trusted me with you and I am responsible for you. We always told each other everything, you could've just asked me."
I just looked down at the floor, I know he is worried but I'm not five and he needs to realise that.
"Did Dolores know?" Pedri asked, still looking at Nicco as if he was about to jump on him. His expression changed from confused to a sudden realisation. "Of course she knew, that's why she was so nervous and trying to stall us. I feel stupid."
"If it makes you feel better, Gavira is definitely stupider," I said before processing what I said, Dolores and Ferran were now both laughing and wiping the tears that formed in their eyes. I would pay a million to be in their position and not mine.
"Ava now is not the time to insult my best friend,"
"Fine," I huffed and turned to Nicco. "I had fun tonight, sorry about my brother. Bye." I practically dragged him to the door and out of there.
"Sorry about your brother?"
"Yes, because you are being irrational. Nothing bad happened, I am standing right in front of you well and alive. What else could you possibly ask for?"
"For you to be honest with me!" He shouted back at me.
"Why would I be if you would react the same no matter what!"
"You didn't even give me a chance!"
"That's it!" I said putting my shoes on, "Lori? Can we go to your place?"
"Absolutely," she replied, standing up and going to the front door.
"I'll be back when I feel like it," were the last few words I said as I slammed the door behind me.
