I felt so embarrassed. They were keeping a very attentive eye and Jungkook rapidly panicked.
"It's your parents! What do I do? Should I go say hi? It's rude if I don't! Do they know about us? Moon, tell me what to do, they're looking!"
"No, it's better if you don't tonight..." I said, based on the conversation I had just had with them.
"What do you mean? They'll think I'm a scumbag! I'll go say hi!" He insisted.
He approached the terrace and bowed politely, while I rolled my eyes.
"Good evening, Mr and Mrs Moon! I'm Jeon Jungkook and, with your permission, I'd like to take Luna out! I'll drive her home before midnight and obviously I won't drink any alcohol", he seemed so intimidated, which looked so sweet on him.
My parents looked doubtful, but at the same time I could tell they had been taken by surprise by his extremely well mannered introduction.

"She's old enough and doesn't really need our permission, but thank you for asking, Jungkook... You seem like a responsible kid, don't make me change my mind..." My dad answered, seemingly convinced about Jungkook's trustworthiness.
Jungkook thanked them and bowed again, then we said bye and got in his car.
"Wow, that was scary!" He said, while driving away from my house.
I laughed.
"No, I'm serious! Why did it feel like they hated me at first? What did you tell them?" He asked, worried.
"I didn't say anything! I mean, I had to tell them that we were, you know, together... I hope you don't mind..." I admitted.
"No, I don't, but is that why they were giving me the death stare?"
"Uhm, no, not really... I think it's something about your parents, but they didn't give much details..." I explained.
"Of course, it had to be them..." He whispered to himself, looking upset.
I was about to ask him what was wrong, but he soon regained his smile and looked at me up and down, saying "You're extremely beautiful tonight!"
I blushed and said a faint 'thank you'.
"Oh, I almost forgot! You have to cover your eyes! And no peeking! Or you'll ruin the surprise." He then said, as if he had remembered something.
I was unsure, but I did as I was told, despite being very curious about what he had in mind.

Something like five minutes went by, in which time I kept asking him to give me hints on where we were going, but he was very determined not to tell me anything.
"There you go, we arrived. But don't look! Not yet! I have to park first", he announced.
"Oh, come on! Just turn on the self parking! It's faster! I'm dying to see where we are!" I complained.
"I know, but I don't like it..." I heard him say.
"Yeah, you told me, something about 'being in control', what was that about, by the way?" I asked while I could feel him enter a parking spot.
"I mean, where do I start? I wasn't in control of a decision that affected my DNA when I wasn't even the size of a pea, I guess that's a good start..." He answered, with a cynical tone, while he turned around to manoeuvr and park the car, or so it sounded, I still had my eyes closed.
"Well, even if they didn't do that, it's not like you had any control on your genes anyway... Hell, you didn't even have control on being conceived or being born... Jungkook, there are so many things in our life that we have absolutely no control over, whether we are GM kids or not, believe me... Once you stop thinking about your life as something you have to be in control of, every step of the way, that's when you'll actually live... Also, another question, why do you-" I was interrupted by a kiss.
I hadn't realised that, while I was so focused on giving my motivational speech, he was done parking and was probably staring at me, waiting for me to finish. And so I couldn't ask him if that was the only resentment he had towards his parents or if there was something else, because when he had talked about them earlier it reminded me of when Tae talks about his parents. Does every GM kid hate his parents or is it only the ones who didn't want to be genetically modified?

"Sorry, I didn't realise the car had stopped moving", I admitted after the kiss, still keeping my hands on my eyes.
"It's fine, I didn't want to interrupt you, but your wisdom made me wanna kiss you".
I rolled my eyes but then I realised he couldn't see that, so I stuck my tongue out to pretend I was disgusted by his sweetness, even though I was just embarrassed.
"So, are we going or not?" I asked, impatient.
"Yes, yes... wait here, I'll help you out".
And so I heard him get out of the car and after a few seconds I heard him open my car door. He took my hand, while the other one kept covering my eyes, and helped me get out of the car.

"I still can't open them?" I asked, tired of seeing absolutely nothing. The amount of trust I was putting into him was huge and I hoped he noticed that, so that he would let me read those text drafts. Yes, I was still thinking about that.
"No, just be patient for another few seconds, Moon... It should be worth it..." He answered, while keeping one hand on my waist to lead the way and help me walk straight.
"Should be? What does that mean? Why are you not sure?" I asked, starting to doubt if the surprise was going to be pleasant or if it was going to be Jungkook's style, which means just a big joke.
"Well, I told you I planned this thing ten years ago, so I don't know if you still like it..." He explained, while we were going through some sliding door, or at least that's what it sounded like.
I remained silent, trying to pick up some hints. We hopped on some moving stairs, while I could hear a lot of voices all around. It must have been a crowded place.
We got to the second floor and kept walking for another few steps and then another sliding door. It became very silent all of a sudden.

"Okay, now you can open your eyes!" He said finally.
So I removed my hands from my face and looked around. My eyes went wide.
"What?! This is the Hop on Sand game! I thought they didn't make it anymore!" I exclaimed as soon as I realised I was in the room where my favorite game as a teenager is played. I recognised the moving floor set and the VR station and then the posters all around the room.
"Well, yeah, apparently there is this one still standing, although nobody seems to play it anymore." He answered and I remembered when I used to go to one of those VR arcades in town, which mostly are for non-rich people who can't afford to buy those sets for playing in virtual reality at home.
I used to go with Tae in middle school, even though at his house his parents had a whole room with that type of accessories, but he preferred coming with me at the public ones.
I loved that game. The main goal was to walk across a desert island looking for a guy named Hop and you could find him only by deciphering the given hints and retrieving the magical weapons to defeat the monsters you found on the way. I still remembered how similar to walking on sand the moving floor of that game actually felt and how enthusiastic I was every time I solved an enigma and finally found Hop.
I couldn't help but smile, rethinking about those memories. So I looked at him in awe. How did he know?

"So, you like it?"
