Mind Games - Win or Lose

Chapter - 2

Eda stared at the nurse once Serkan had left, "I'm sorry I can't help him."

"Let's start with some general questions so we can set a baseline. We're going to concentrate on you. Do you know what year it is?" Eda thought about it but shook her head no.

"Do you know what city you're in?" Again she shook her head no.

"Can you tell me anything about yourself?"

"No. I know what the man told me. Why am I here? What's wrong with me?" asked Eda confused.

"You fell and hit your head, you were unconscious and were brought to the emergency room. Where would you go if you weren't here?"

"I don't know. I guess I don't know much of anything," Eda said with a shrug.

"I'm going to call you Eda because that is your name even if you don't remember. It will be good to have a name don't you think?" Eda nodded, "Why don't you get some rest, things may be clearer after you've rested. Press the call button if you need anything. I'll check back in a bit."

Nurse Lara walked out of Eda's room to find Serkan sitting on a chair outside, "I thought that you had left for the evening."

"No, we don't leave each other even when things are tough and we've had a really tough couple of years. I thought we were over it but I guess the universe just keeps wanting to test us. I promise to stay out of the way if you let me stay, please?"

"If you keep that promise to stay out of the way, you can sit here. You indicated that she's pregnant on the forms you completed. How far along is she?"

Serkan smiled trying to blink back the tears, "It'll be fourteen weeks, she's showing already. Sooner than she did with Kiraz. Eda is convinced that this baby will be a boy. She's supposed to have an OB check-up the day after tomorrow, I don't know what to do about it. I can't force her to go. If she doesn't remember anything she doesn't know she's pregnant."

"We'll address that with her Mr. Bolat."

"Do you know what the kicker is Nurse? We've already been through this, I was in a plane crash and in a coma for two months, when I woke I knew who I was but I had lost the most recent year. The year that I met Eda. The difference is that I had dreams of Eda, I never really forgot her. We got married six weeks after I woke from my coma. We've had challenges but we never left each other. We had a crazy stalker. . . . ."

The nurse was following this, it sounded familiar, she interrupted him, "She kidnapped you and shot your wife? That's where her scars are from?"

"Yes."

"Two years ago, there was an article done about mental health. I've read your story, it was beautifully done. There were sad parts but really Mr. Bolat it is a beautiful story with a strong message, you overcame so much."

Serkan sat back down and hunched over in his chair, "And now I'm here, out in the hall while my wife, my everything, is in the room behind me afraid of me not wanting anything to do with me. Just beautiful."

"If you want to stay in the hall you can. I wish that I had answers for you but I'm afraid that I don't," Nurse Lara went back to the nurses station, she felt awful for Mr. Bolat. She heard the pain in his voice when he spoke to his wife she really wished that there was an easy fix.

Eda heard the nurse talking outside the door and went to listen, the man that said he was her husband was still there, sitting. What was it that he said? We don't leave each other when things are tough. The nurse asked about her being pregnant? She ran her hand over her lower abdomen, she felt the gentle swell. She walked away from the door. She continued to rub her abdomen, she was pregnant? How could she be pregnant by someone she didn't know? Her mind shied away from feeling violated somehow. How could she carry a baby to term when she didn't know who she was or what she was? She kept going back to the thought that she was pregnant by someone she didn't even know. What was she going to do?
