I was a plain old guy. Brown hair, brown eyes, average height, average build. I wasn't ugly, but compared to some of my younger brothers I was, and my twin sister Jill, took every opportunity to tease me about this.

I was a plain old guy, looking at what was probably my only chance to not be plain old. To be awesome, adventurous, Jack. I was gonna climb the giant bean stalk rising out of my farm.

"At least we'll never run out of bean dip." Jill said, staring at the enormous bean stalk taking up our farm, and giggling. I glared at Jill. Dad was going to be so mad when he found out.

"Let's climb it." I said. "Jack!" Jill cried. "Don't you think that's a bit dangerous?" "Nah, I'm a good climber, and if you fall-" Jill grinned and said, "I was worried about you, you can't even climb a teeny tiny hill!" "Hey! That was when we were five! And you pushed me! You fell too! "Only 'cause you pulled me down with you!" She replied.

"Come on." Jill looked up at the stalk, as if considering. "It looks fun to climb, but I need to get back to looking for potions to save mom." She said sadly. I looked up. "Maybe there was something at the top." I thought, not wanting to go without my sister which was kind of embarrassing, so I couldn't say so. "Don't you want to explore? Feel the clouds on your face? One day isn't gonna cost mom anything." "I don't know Jack. I really wanna go, but Mom... She's sick." "Isn't mom always telling you that you can't spend all your time trying to save her?" I ask, knowing that'll get her. "Well yes but-" "Then you better respect her wishes."

"Okay, Jack, let's go." She said, smiling. I liked it when I could make my sister smile. She'd been doing it less and less since Mom got sick. She hopped onto the bean stalk and started to climb. I trailed behind.

We were both good climbers, so we got to the top in a few minutes. Jill took off her shoes, laying them on the thick, enchanted clouds next to her. Sitting down and experimentally pushing her feet through the thinner clouds in front of her. Jill sighed, seeming very relaxed. She let the moisture in the thinner, hazy clouds soak into her feet.

She stared into the distance and said,, "If you ever get a girlfriend, bring her here at sunset, you hear me? This is the best view I've ever seen and it would be really romantic. That is IF you can get a girlfriend." She turned around and smiled at me, laughing.

"Look, there's a castle." "I noticed." She replied. "Don't you wan't to go inside?" I asked. "No." "Why?" "No." "But-" "No." "Jill, please?" "That castle belongs to someone, someone who will be very unhappy if you break and enter their home. That is not okay with me. I look at the castle. "I'm going with or without you." I reply, hoping that'll get her to come. I hated going places without my twin. Although I'd never tell her that of course. "It's going to take me a long time to forgive you." She said, climbing angrily back down the beanstalk. I glared down at her retreating figure, swiftly bounding down the stalk. Now I'd have to go alone.

I walk over to the castle. The door was huge. A giant's castle! I tried to open the door, but the massive thing was too heavy. I went to the castles gardens, to find a shovel. I didn't see a shovel, but I did find a giant spade. I was glad, because I wouldn't have been able to carry a giant shovel anyway.

I walked up to the door, and forced it open with the spade. Once inside I was captured by the beauty of it all. He may have been a vulgar giant, but he sure knew how to decorate! I noticed two things, most of all.

A golden harp, playing a haunting melody all on it's own, and a goose sitting upon a golden egg. I picked up the goose, and stroked her feathers. Surely a giant couldn't have been taking very good care of a fine creature such as this.

I would take her, and give her to Lucy for her birthday. Lucy was one of my younger sisters. She was five, and longed for a pet.

Gently carrying the goose, I walked over to the harp. Lucy's twin Melody, could have this. Surely it hated being here, with the giant, and that was why it was playing such a sad, haunting melody. I started to run away, knowing that the giant would soon return to its kitchen, considering that it was lunch time, when I sliced my arm on the giant butter knife that was on the table with the harp.

"Fee Fie Foe Foy I smell the blood of an little boy." He called, "Do you need a bandaid?" He asked, smiling down at me until he saw what I was doing.

"Hey, are you stealing my stuff? That's not cool. I hardly ever get visitors and when I do they try to steal my stuff! Do you know how hard it is to get cool stuff that's big enough for me!" He rages.

I run out the door, giant on my heels. I climb as fast as I can, knowing what I have to do. As soon as I reached the bottom, I ran into the shed, and grabbed my father's axe.

Boy was I getting an earful when this was over. I hacked at the bean stalk 'till it started to fall.

"TIMBER!!!!!" I cried, loud enough for everyone to hear. My dazed family runs out of our shoe, to stare at the giant lying crushed beneath the huge bean stalk.

"Jack the giant slayer." I heared my father murmer, as I handed my sisters their gifts. "Jack the evil giant murderer." I heared Jill grumble in reply.

*Jack and up the hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after*
