Poor Unfortunate Souls

I looked into my crystal bubble one last time, but instead of seeing my wretched little brother I saw his youngest daughter, Ariel.

Perhaps the disgusting, vulgar little creature would be of Some use. I watched as she made her way to the horrid sea cave that, because of her annoying brat of a father, had become my home.

I spread on some of the shellfish blood I used as lipstick, and readied my cauldron. Looking in the mirror I studied myself. I looked more like an octopus, than a mermaid, and with my blood red lips, jet black hair, and seaweed green highlights, I looked a perfect picture of a sea witch.

Suddenly, terrible, piercing screams echoed throughout the cavern.  I snickered, to quietly for her to hear.  "What a wimp!"  I thought.  Instead I said "Don't worry dear, just my home security system. If you can call this hole your father banished me to a home."

"Why would Daddy banish you here?" She asked, although she must know. Everyone in the kingdom knew.  My annoying little brother had made sure of that.  Time for a little music. I told her my story.

When Your father and I were younger, he was picked to be king instead of me, even though I am the eldest, therefore inheriting the crown. So I planned to poison his dinner. I was the rightful owner. I deserved the throne.  And everyone in the palace- no kingdom despised the spoiled little brat.  Everyone but our fawning parents.  He wouldn't have been missed.  No one would have cared if there was one less brat in the world, who sadly had left us, killed off by the "humans' toxic water."  I placed it's extract in his food, but little did I know, he'd been sneaking seaweed cakes from the kitchens again! Ariel giggled, even in the intensity if the story. "Daddy does love his seaweed cakes!" "Yes..." Your father didn't eat anything. So that night I went into his bedroom with a knife, and was caught.

Ariel looked at me, a horrified look plastered across her vile little face. "Never mind. I don't need your help..." She started to back away.

🎶 I admit that in the past I've been a nasty, they weren't kidding when they called me well a witch but you'll find nowadays, I've mended all my ways, repented, seen the light, and made a switch. True? Yes.  And I fortunately know a little magic, it's a talent that I always have possessed. And here lately, (please don't laugh) I use it on behalf of the miserable lonely and depressed. I barely resisted the urge to say pathetic.  Poor unfortunate souls in pain in need. This one longing to be thinner, this one wants to get the girl, did I help them? yes indeed. those poor unfortunate souls so sad so true. They come flocking to my cauldron crying spells Ursula please, and I help them yes I do.   Now it's happened once or twice someone couldn't pay the price, and Im afraid I had to rake me cross the coals yes I've had the odd complaint, but on the whole I've been a saint to those poor unfortunate souls.🎶

She was hooked, they always were.  What had my brother done to this kingdom? They were all so gullible!  If this were my kingdom, your first impression would be liar, and thief.  For everyone.

"Now, I wish I could say this were free, but all good things come with a price. "Oh... I don't have any money."  She said like a ballon letting out air, whatever that is.

"I don't require your sand dollars, child." I said. "I require a few items, from your home." she smiled. "What would you like? I have a whole cavern full of human oddities." "I do not want your human oddities, either. I want the trident." I said, increasingly annoyed.

"Daddy's trident? I'm not supposed to touch it."  She said sadly. "What a girl would do for love..." and swam out the door to get the first item.

I immediately looked into my crystal bubble. ~Don't you mean ball? "What is a ball?" Never mind.~

I saw her swimming hurriedly to the bedroom she shared with her seven older sisters. "Please help me! In order to forever be with my love, I need to steal Daddy's trident, and some other things after." She cried in her terribly annoying, high
squeaky voice, her sisters reluctantly agreed.

They snuck into his throne room, during a banquet for royalty. Kings, queens, dukes, duchesses, and the like.  I should have been there, not my brother! Arial picked up the trident and almost screamed. As soon as she touched it the metal glowed white hot, a security system to stop theft.

Arial, determined to get to her love, carried out the plan perfectly, and was out of the castle, when she dropped the trident. "What's wrong?" Pacifica, the second youngest asked.

Arial showed her older sisters her hands. they were almost beyond repair. All her sisters could do was wrap them in healers kelp, and hope they didn't get infected.

They all wrapped their hands in kelp, except for Atlantica, the eldest, who said, "It's a fashion disaster, and itchy too!"

So they swam on, passing it from youngest to oldest, when the seaweed got to warm to stand. When they were almost here, and had reached the bottomless chasm, that marked the borders of Atlantis, Oceania passed it to Atlantica, who unprepared for the heat, dropped it.

"Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" Arial and I screamed in unison. she tried to dive in after it, but her sisters held her back. "Perhaps if we bring the other items she will still help us?" Pacifica asked. The other sisters agreed and they dragged a wailing Arial to my home.

"You have not brought the item." I asked angrily. "Yes, but-" I grabbed them and shoved them into my magic mirror. They could starve to death in there, for all I cared.  In fact, wasn't wasting my food on my brother's brats, so they would.
