Upon seeing the woman below the railing, Leon couldn't help but look joyful seeing her in one piece.
"Hold on! I'll be right there!"
"Okay!"
He dashed for the stairs with Kelly close behind. The woman with auburn hair was already at the chained fence leading into the courtyard, trying the handle in hopes for it to open. Once they made it to the bottom and approached the woman, Kelly could see her blue eyes in the dark with light freckles dusted on her cheeks.
"Claire, it is so nice to see you," Leon commented, delighted.
She smiled at him in return. "How are you doing? That helicopter just came out of nowhere."
"Yeah... I'm in one piece."
Kelly shouldn't have felt conflicted with just a simple conversation between the two, but a little bit of envy seeped into her emotions. She knew better than to become jealous. You only met her, maybe she's a friend, just like your reunion with Leon after a while, she reminded herself. Still, she couldn't help but feel slightly possessive over her partner.
"Aren't you gonna introduce me to your friend standing beside you?" Claire teased.
"Oh! Uh, Claire, this is Kelly Steinbeck. She's another cop. Kelly, Claire Redfield."
Leon stepped aside for the two women to greet each other properly. Claire gave her a friendly smile, sticking her hand through the chain-linked fence. It must have been a joke, but Kelly took her hand in hers and shook it.
"Hi. It's nice to meet you," Claire addressed.
"It's nice to meet you, too," Kelly responded, a smile beginning to make its way on her lips.
Their hands separated, and Claire's demeanor changed. "I don't suppose either of you have a key in one of those fancy pockets?"
Leon patted himself down, even though he knew he didn't. "Unfortunately, no. But, how are you doing?"
"You know, just surviving," she said casually, resting her arm on the fence and her other hand making its way to her hip.
Again, the green-eyed monster was beginning to wake itself. She shouldn't let it though. Kelly hadn't seen Leon for three years. Why does she feel as if Claire was trying to flirt with him? Maybe she was? Leon has the right to find someone else just as much as Kelly. Their relationship was in the past, and she had to remember that.
