⋆⋆⋆⋆Once the duo made it to S.T.A.R.S. office, Leon locked the door for good measure while Kelly sat in one of the abandoned chairs. She let out a pained groan, holding onto her ribs. Whatever that thing hit, it for sure broke something in her body. Leon trudged toward said detective, but eyed the door just in case. There were no monstering footsteps indicating his paranoia, however, so they presumed it to be gone—at the moment, at least.
"Okay... we seemed to have lost the prick. We should be safe for now," he confirmed, looking at his companion, brushing his hair out of his face with his fingers.
Kelly gave him a thumbs up. "Yay," she said sarcastically with a hint of exhaustion lacing her tone, smiling faintly at him.
Leon, returning the small smile, met her at the chair and crouched down, resting his forearms on his knees.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
Through hooded eyes, she stated, "You seem to ask that question a lot."
"What else am I supposed to say?" He chuckled.
Laughing along, Kelly dropped the sarcasm and answered him truthfully. "In all honesty, I feel like I just had the wind knocked out of me like my brother would do when we were kids... only ten times the pressure."
Leon giggled lightly. "Sibling rivalry is unmatched. Didn't you tell me you held your brother down in a wrestling match one time and nearly broke his arm the same day?"
Kelly proudley grinned. "Donovan learned not to mess with me from then on."
Both young adults held their stare, then simultaneously broke into a fit of laughter. Kelly's upper back hurt in the slightest, but didn't let it degrade what was happening before her. They should have been aware if there were zombies roaming around. Even so, she wanted to enjoy the sliverest of happiness that's happened since the outbreak.
Their chortles died down, leaving them in a quiet room once again. Getting back on track, Leon stood up to his full height, offering a hand to her. Kelly rolled her eyes, a playful smile beginning to show. She clasped her hand in his, and he helped her up. A pained groan left her lips, squinting her eyes shut. Once she opened them, the worrisome look on Leon's face found its way to her. She affirmed her wellbeing by waving her hand.
"I'm good. There's nothing that herbs can't fix," Kelly said, bringing out the mixed green leaves.
"All right, well, you let me know if the pain gets worse."
