⋆⋆⋆⋆Wandering aimlessly through the empty halls of Umbrella seemed like a never-ending loop of insanity. A pointless maze filled with the undead and much more. On their way to the Low Temperature Testing Lab, Kelly and Leon dropped by the Server Room first as needed. The place held up to its title, providing them more bullets and flame rounds. Kelly stocked up on shotgun shells, Leon filling up the tank to his flamethrower. To them, it was worth the stop.
In said Testing Lab, the setting darkened, as did the noise from outside the room. A glass pane window poured a pale light into the space, showing just the right amount of brightness to see. What laid slouching on the wall was yet another doctor, deceased like the rest.
"Welcome back, Dr. Li. You have five new messages."
An open computer splayed parallel to the doctor. Inquisitive, Kelly snooped through his inbox to know what Wayne Li had been sharing with his colleagues. At first, the emails were casual. But once she got to the third page, the paragraphs changed. His employee's change of tone appeared more frightened as he mentioned the Greenhouse. We're under attack, it said. Wayne, how do we stop this thing? another read. Oddly, in the last email received by the doctor, it went back to normal. Like this person wanted to keep a facade of ordinary talk. To pretend that there was no danger lurking over their heads. Oh, how more wrong could he be?
Leaving it alone now, she caught up with her partner who just about walked through the door to the lab area. As soon as the door automatically opened, a gust of icy wind hit them like a brick wall. Chills covered her arms as the two shuddered, reluctant to meander further. Every crevice was cold to the touch, a blanket of frost covering the floor, clouds of white stirring in the air.
"Who left the freezer open?" Leon shuddered.
Shivering, Kelly replied comically, "The audacity these people have. Just because it's a zombie apocalypse doesn't mean you can't have the courtesy of shutting it beforehand."
They traveled in further, chattering their teeth the colder it got. Kelly dropped the solution in the slot for the machine to run its course. She knew it would take a minute, watching the cartridge present itself to a robotic yellow arm, which it took as an operated voice announced its cooling process. Seconds felt like minutes as Kelly attempted to warm herself up, complaining internally about the lengthy procedure. Moments after, it returned their—now—herbicide vile.
Leon and Kelly didn't want to stay a second longer, bolting for the exit to rid themselves from the wintry condition. The two stood while they rotated their limbs, trying to get the blood flowing to its normal temperature.
