⋆⋆⋆⋆Cold sludge sploshed in the tunnel the two officers treaded through, keeping their eye out for those chess plugs. In the lower waterway, there was a shutter on dry land that needed a T-bar handle. Good thing Leon doubled back to the cable car and found one conveniently.
Using his strength, he rotated the valve for the door to open. With a map Kelly had collected from the monitor room, she surveyed the terms to find out where they are now. A workroom, perhaps? As a cop, Kelly could name every street and building like the back of her hand. But when it came to actual blueprints for the building, it was like Greek to her.
The bottom waterway was the last place they had to check, so they got back into the sewage to pursue their goal of finding the plugs. Unlike what the duo have seen, this section was divided into a maze-like path—the walls being heaps of garbage and intestines. She wasn't sure if they were human organs or... something else.
Going down the ladder to the catwalk, they traveled through the waters while listening for intruders. A corpse was slumped against the wall as if it were a prop for displaying. However, once the young adults passed by, something burst out of its chest. Kelly's grip on her flashlight tightened, eyes growing wide at the sight of this creature hissing before diving into the sewer with them.
"What the hell was that!?" Leon said.
"I'd rather we don't find out," Kelly replied, motioning her light to an open area of land. "Shall we?"
In the back of her mind, Kelly was thinking, don't let it be a chestburster. They encountered another pink blob monster, to which they killed with countless rounds of bullets. Leon and Kelly fled to the supplies storage room where they found the three pieces they needed. Locked away in one of the storage cages was a flamethrower that her partner had to get his hands on. Once they solved the puzzle, he now held the flammable object.
"Can't wait to test this thing out," Leon told her, strapping it onto his back.
Kelly lightly nudged him with her elbow, quipping, "This is why you gave me the shotgun, huh? Because you foresaw the future of finding a kickass flamethrower, thus handing me this lame thing."
Leon's bangs brushed to the side, a playful smile on his lips. "I'm sorry, is my newfound weapon shunning yours?"
"Yes, and you should be ashamed of yourself."
Leon nudged her back, and Kelly dropped the playful attitude, managing to talk between short laughs. "I'm-I'm kidding. I'm grateful, actually." She brought out her shotgun as if presenting it to him, her finger resting away from the trigger and her hand holding the sliding mechanism at the end of the barrel. "It does suit me like you said."
