"You're here?!" Elise shouts and runs into her fiancee's arms.
"Surprise!" He kisses her forehead just as the baby in Elise's arms begins to cry softly.
"Oh," Elise backs away, though one of Charlie's arms stays on her waist. "Shhh" She calms the child by swaying slightly.
Charlie smiles. "You don't need practice at being a mother, beautiful, you are already so wonderful at it." Charlie kisses her lips this time. Elise breaks the kiss that Charlie thought would be longer, and turns back to Draco, who stood still, quiet, and tense close by.
Elise walked up to him. "Draco, this is Charlie, my..." she hesitated.
"Finanée, I'm her fiancée," Charlie smiles and offers his hand out as if they were business partners.
Draco didn't move, or offer his hand, for it was in a tight fist at his side anyway.
"So, what are you doing here Charlie, what a surprise!" Elise says enthusiastically.
"I wanted to surprise you gorgeous, I wanted to spend time with you before the wedding in a week." He walked closer to her and kisses her on the neck, she moves away from him awkwardly.
"Are you taking me on a date?" Elise flashes a smile, but, Draco noticed, it didn't have Elise's usual brightness to it, her smile was dim, and forced to be played, he didn't like her smile that way, he wanted to see her real smile, he wanted to make her smile bright.
"If you would like. Anything to make you happy, pretty thing." He smiled and stared at Elise.
Elise flashed a smaller smile toward Charles. "Of course. But, we will have to bring the children, Draco has classes so I'll have to take care of them, so, I'll need to pack for them as well..." Elise began speaking to herself.
"The—children," Charles went white and cleared his throat. "Uh, of course, yes." And nods to himself.
Draco watches him carefully at the corner of his eye and holds in a laugh at his uncomfortableness, and heads upstairs to speak to Elise, he knew for a fact that he did not have classes for the rest of the day.
"Care to explain, pretty thing." Draco scoffs with disrespect at the name Charlie called her.
Elise turns towards him. She is on her knees on the floor with a diaper bag, packing for the twins. While the babies are in their beds making little noises to themselves.
"You've already had your side of trouble with the twins, it's my turn to take of them and let you rest. It's what we do in a partnership." Draco flinched at the word 'partnership'.
"This is supposed to be a relationship, it is the rules." He says quietly.
Elise studies him carefully. "Actually, I spoke to Professor Mcgonagall, before I came back to the flat after my surgery, and she told me that if I am in another relationship more permanently than dating, then she will not get in between of what is already going to happen," Elise answers quietly as well, her head now in looking into her lap, too embarrassed to look up at Draco to see his reaction to her words.
Draco sucked in a breath and let it out slowly. "Then don't let me get in the way of your permanence of a relationship."
"Need any help up there hot stuff?" Charles calls from the bottom of the stairs, and his light laugh echoes through the stairs. Elise closes her eyes and shakes her head a little.
"I'm fine." She calls back.
Draco drags a hand over his face. "Hot stuff? Really Elise?" He sighs.
She turns away from him and stands up and begins collecting the twin's things around the room.
Draco walks up to her and takes her hands into his. She drops the bag. "Elise, please, listen to me. He won't treat you right. I can see it already—"
"Draco, don't, please—"
"He only wants your body." He tells her and stares right into her eyes and she has no choice but to look into his as well.
Seconds pass and Elise breaks their eye contact and looks down. And shakes her head slowly again. "You don't know that. You don't know him, not like I do, he has connections, my parents approved and that's what matters most—"
"No, no, Elise. That's not what matters most, in fact, it shouldn't matter at all. It's not them getting married to that man. It's you! Don't you understand that? If you marry this man, you will be his and he will never let you go. Your parents aren't in control of you, you are. Please, don't go through with this. He won't treat you like you deserved to be treated."
"Oh, and you will?!" Elise shouts, shocking Draco. "You will treat me right?" She laughs as a tear rolls down her cheeks.
"Draco, face it. We won't work. We never will. All we do is fight, and when we don't fight we are apart from each other. Imagine how that will be if we even thought about having kids. I can't do that, I with do that. You scare me Draco. I'm scared of you. Draco The Death Eater. You will never be able to change that, you made a mistake and that will haunt you, it should haunt you because you deserve it. How could you want to do that to be or our children?" More tears streamed down her face.
Draco's eyes were wide with sadness and his hands shook.
"Is everything alright?" Charlie appeared in the doorway.
Elise sucked in a breath and wiped away her tears and smiled like nothing happened. "We're fine, honey, Draco was just showing me where everything is. I'm still learning my way around everything."Elise walked to pick up one baby, and Draco picked the other up, then Elise walked swiftly to Charles's side and hooked her arm in his. The diaper bag was slung over her shoulder.
"Alright, you ready to go then?" He smiled down at her and kissed her on the lips. Draco winced.
Elise leads Charles downstairs, Elise gets the strollers ready and puts the child in her arms into one stroller then walks up to Draco, avoiding eye contact, takes the child in his arms and places her in the other stroller.
"Well, I think we are ready to go. Charlie, you'll take one stroller and ill take the other, got it?" Elise says to her fiancee.
He nods and looks disgustedly at the stroller with the child in it, but, begins to wheel the stroller out the door, and Elise begins to follow behind.
"I don't see a ring." Draco comments and they both stop and turn around.
Charlie lets out a frustrated breath. Elise looks at Charlie with a dash of fright, and Draco notices.
"I suggest you quit getting in my way, escort or you'll be reliving your nightmares." Elise grabs Charlie's arm and pulls him out the door. Leaving Draco too scared to speak.
