WE AT 38 READS YALL!! 1-22-2023
To your unluck, you didn't really have a change of clothes. You'd never think in a million years you'd be planning to stay iwith Avery overnight in Texas. So you were wearing the same outfit as before, even having to sleep in it the other night.
You found your friend's room again, knocing on the door once. "Avery!" You knocked again, "Avery, get up!"
"I'm coming. Give me a second." You heard her say from the other side of the door.
You replied. "Alright." You stepped back from the door. You foot tapped on the ground to pass time.
Avery gently opened the door, like she was trying to get used to opening a room door instead of a car door.
You looked her up and down. "Somethings off, what's going on?"
"Nothing, nothing."
You gave her an unbelieving look, but you weren't one to pry. There were other things you could talk about at the moment.
"Did you read the letter yet?"
"I did." She answered quietly.
You stepped in front of her, making her almost trip back. "Really? What did it say?"
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"No, it said 'I'm sorry'" She took it out of her pocket, and handed you the letter. You walked backwards as you read the letter, while Avery followed along.
"That's it?..." Your disappointment in your tone clear.
"Yes, it is.""Why would he put that?"
"I'm not sure."
You stared at the opened letter in your hand. How could that be it? No context, no explanation, nothing. You gave back the letter, it was Avery's anyways, to press the elevator button.
"What should we do?" You stepped into the elevator first.
"Do about what, Y/n?"
"Didn't that Jameson guy say you would be the top story?"
"He did." The tone already telling you to make your point.
The elevator reached the designated floor with a ring.
"I know for sure, Drake would somehow find out. And you know how everyone at school is glued to their phone." You explained. "Almost everyone you've ever met, would know about your cash."
The elevator door opened. Avery took the lead, and walked you both to the kitchen, where you found Oren and Alisa having a chat.
"Avery," Oren noticed you two before Alisa,"here are some security protocols I'd like to go over with you."
"You're a target now." Alisa added on.
"A target for what?" Avery asked.
"Paparazzi, of course. The firm is keeping a lid on the story for the time being, but that won't last, and there are other concerns."
"Kidnapping," Oren must think that's a normal thing to hear for Avery. "Stalking. People will make threats---they always do. You're young, and you're female, and that will make it worse. With you sister's permission, I'll arrange a detail for her as well, as soon as she gets back."
"What about me?" You wondered. You wouldn't want to leave Avery so suddenly, but if you were an issue to be there. Then so be it.
Alisa thought about it. "People will most likely not pay much attention to you. But they might use you to get a reaction out of Avery." She said, probably implying more than teasing or bullying you. "But I doubt you have anything to worry about as long as no one is aware of your current whereabouts."
