"Hey Y/n., are you alright you haven't said anything about what Skye told you." Avery asked you in concern.
Avery and Jameson were talking about how the Hawthrone brother's middle name's weren't chosen by their mother but was instead chosen by their grandfather. Avery had suggested getting a private investigator, but Jameson disagreed and said to just give him 6 hours to sober up.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm alright. Just a bit tired you know?" You said as you rubbed your eye.
Avery seemed uncertain but decided to go with it, but with just one look Jameson know something was up.
"Did she say something to you?" Jameson asked, breaking the silence.
"Nothing important, guys, trust me." You paused. "Everything is alright. I'm just going to go outside for a bit, okay?" You smiled before walking away to where ever the wind takes you.
A few hours later, you got a sudden urge to watch the sunset. Those are relaxing, right? You were able to find a somewhat secluded area with an excellent view of the sunset and trees that stretched as far as your eyes could see. Back in Connecticut, the best thing you'd ever see is your favorite food made by Libby. As much as you didn't want to, you couldn't stop thinking about Skye's deal.
Going back would just mean that all of the progress that you all had made would mean nothing, but life would be easier. However, that much money would help Avery so much, but her life was basically in danger all of the time. What would happen after a year, and she got the money? How could you be sure that Avery is safe?
Your foot began to tap rapidly as your leg started to shake.
Avery would've learned of Skye's deal as soon as you saw her, but going back 'home' with your parents and leaving Avery all alone was too much for you. Your fingers fidgeted with each other before you even knew it. There was a gut feeling in you that if you had told Avery, Skye would find out. She just seemed like one of those people, and you'd bet money on it. Was there really no one else you could go to-
"You wouldn't mind standing a bit to the left would you?" You heard a voice.
"Grayson?"
"I'm surprised you got it right this time, Mr. L/n." He held his camera to his side.
Sure, you and Grayson had interact plenty of time before, but something felt different. It was like as if you two were just friends who ran into each other. That moment had the same atmosphere to when you gave him that flower.
"Hah, don't get used to it though." You continued to stare off into the distance.
"Something troubling you?" Grayson stood next to you, maybe just a few inches to close for your taste.
You finally looked into his eyes. "Yeah sure, like you actually want to hear me." You leaned against the railing and rested your chin in your hand. You then turned your head back to the view.
"I do."
You turned your head back to him. "Well look who just developed a heart." You let out a small chuckle. A small breeze passed by before you opened your mouth again. "I won't go that much into it, but I'm debating whether or not if I should just go back home. I mean, it's not like me being here really affects anything. But I'm just worried about Avery and-"
"Have you even considered yourself in any of this?" Grayson raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean? Of course, I've thought about if Avery-"
"Not about Avery, you."
"I..." You trailed on. "I haven't though about that yet." Your eyes focusing on the sun slowly lowering.
"I know there are people you don't expect here who'd prefer it if you stayed. They may need you more than you think." Grayson's hand reached towards yours, paused, and then returned back to his side. "Like Ms. Grambs for example."
"I guess you're right." You stopped leaning on the railing. "Were you always this..."
You had realized you and Grayson's faces were close than you expected. You knew he was attractive before but up close was something else. You two stayed in the same position, staring at each other. Your eyes looked back and forth from Grayson's annoying hypnotizing eyes to his lips.
The space between you two only seemed to be getting smaller and smaller.
"I, uh-" You stuttered your words. "I think I need to be somewhere just about now." You lied, your face backing away from his.
"Then I won't keep you here for any longer." Grayson looked indifferent. "I'd hate to be responsible for making you late."
Your feet began to move towards the door before you could even process it. "Yeah, I mean look at the time." You looked at your non-existent watch on your wrist.
"Until we see each other again, Mr. L/n." Grayson turned around with his head first and then his body.
You stopped at the half opened door. "Just Y/n is fine." You showed him a small smile before leaving.
Grayson watched as the door behind you shut as if he was waiting for you to come back. He turned back to the now gone sun and pulled up his camera. He stared at the at the candid photo he took of you while you were staring at the sunset.
"What is happening to you, Grayson Davenport Hawthrone?" He muttered under his breath.
Turned out you really were never in the way after all.
_____
Oren had spotted you in the hall as you were figuring out what had happened.
"Y/n, have you seen Avery recently?" He asked you with an almost stressed tone.
"No, I haven't seen her for a few hours. Why? Did something happen?" You instantly regretted being so distracted and taking your eyes off of Avery.
"Check the latest news."
You whipped your phone out from your pocket and saw a bird eye view photo of Avery and Jameson riding in a car together. At least it wasn't a photo of you and someone else trending.
"Where in the world is she? and when is she getting back?"
"We're not fully sure, but some of the security and I are going to wait from them to arrive." Oren pointed in the general direction. "Would you like to join us?"
"Would I?" You repeated as if the answer wasn't obvious. If there's something you two both like, it's catching people red-handed.
