Tension

I slowly woke up and opened my eyes, trying to get used to the brightness of the room. I wanted to get up slowly, but noticed something holding me in bed. It was only then that I realized that Hanzo's arm was wrapped around me and I could feel his muscular chest pressed against my back. His warm breath gently touched the skin of my neck which made me slightly shiver. I didn't know what to do, my heart started beating faster, but I didn't dare to move. I eyed the tattoo on his arm that I had never seen up close. I didn't know what I was thinking, but slowly I ran my finger along his tattoo, trying to memorize every inch of it. I noticed how Hanzo slowly opened his eyes, but before he could clearly see what I was just doing I closed my eyes and pretended that I was asleep, and that I had no idea that he laid his arm around me. I felt how he pulled his arm back immediately as he realized that he was sleeping like that. "I hope she didn't notice." I felt the bed sag a little and felt someone leaning over me. "Thank god she's still asleep." I heard Hanzo mumble. It was very quiet for a short time, but suddenly I noticed how Hanzo carefully stroked my cheek with his fingers and how he gently stroked a strand of hair from my face. I tried not to let it show that I was taking in all of this, which wasn't easy at all as my heart was beating so fast I could hear it pounding in my ears. After a while he stopped and I felt him get out of bed. I tried to pretend I woke up to him getting up. I slowly opened my eyes and looked at Hanzo, who was standing in front of the closet, shirtless. Apparently he noticed I was awake and turned his head towards me. "Sorry to wake you up, I just couldn't sleep." he said and started to dress. "You should get dressed too, as far as I can remember Dr. Ziegler said that breakfast is soon.". I sat up and stretched, narrowing my eyes. After opening it them I saw Hanzo staring at me. When he saw me looking at him, he quickly looked away. "I'll go ahead. I'll see you at breakfast then." he said and without waiting for my answer he left the dorm. I stared questioning at the door he had just rushed through. I got up slowly and got ready. Still lost in thought why Hanzo had just left our dorm like that. I left the dorm and tried to remember the way to the canteen that Genji had shown us yesterday. But in vain. A few minutes later I was wandering around confused and I no longer knew where I actually was. "Are you lost?" I heard a voice suddenly ask behind me, amused. I jumped and turned to Genji who was leaning against the wall watching me. "God you scared me." I said, laughing lightly, watching Genji coming towards me. "Come on, I'll show you the way." he said as he took my hand and led me through the base to the canteen. "Thanks, who knows how much longer I would have been wandering around." I said laughing as we entered the canteen together. My gaze wandered over all the people who sat and ate in the canteen. Actually, they couldn't have been more different, and yet they all seemed to understand each other. My gaze wandered to Hanzo, who was sitting away from all the hustle and bustle. Alone at his table, he stared at his food, not daring to touch it. After a while he looked around the room until our eyes met, his face twisted into a serious look. I wondered why. Was it because Genji was with me? "Come on, choose something to eat. I want to introduce you to someone." Genji said putting a hand on my shoulder to push me towards the food display. "Could we sit down with Hanzo?" I asked hesitantly as I put together my breakfast. I didn't get an answer. "He's sitting there so alone, I hate to watch him eat his breakfast alone." I continued and Genji gave me a quick look. "Okay, let's sit down with him." he said after a while and followed me a little annoyed. I sat down across from Hanzo and gave him a small smile which he returned. His smile faded, however, when Genji decided to sit next to me.
"Good morning brother." Hanzo said a little coldly and turned back to his food. "Good morning." said Genji in a very provocative good humored way. After that there was absolute silence at our table. I tried to ignore the oppressive silence and ate my breakfast. Genji seemed to have noticed how uncomfortable the situation was when he suddenly started to speak. "After you guys were at Morrison's today, we could do some training together Y/n.". I noticed Hanzo's gaze shift to me and Genji. "That would be unfair to me, you are a cyberninja you defeat me with ease." I said laughing which made Genji laugh a little too. "I promise I'll be extra gentle." he replied, and I could swear I could tell he was smirking under his mask. "Okay." I said and smiled. But my smile faded when I noticed that Hanzo's hand was clenched into a fist. "Shouldn't you rather rest? After all, you still have a wound that needs to heal." Hanzo said a little sternly, giving me a serious look. "It's okay brother, I'll br carefull." Genji said trying to calm his brother down. "Genji, she's not like us! She doesn't heal her wounds that quickly. One wrong step and she'll be back in the hospital." Hanzo said angrily and I noticed a certain tension building up between the two brothers. "If she's okay with training, what's the problem?" Genji now also asked more tensely and in a slightly louder tone. I noticed how the canteen was suddenly quiet. I looked around and noticed how all eyes were on us. "Shouldn't you also want Y/n to get well soon?" Hanzo asked angrily and now also got a little louder. "Can you two please stop? They're already staring at us." I said hesitantly, but the two ignored me. "Of course I want her to get well, but I don't want to lock her up. Hanzo, she's been locked up for the last few years, she finally deserves to make up her own mind." Genji said and the conversation between the two became more and more uncomfortable for me. "She wasn't locked up." replied Hanzo. "Oh yeah? When was the last time she left Shimada Castle without having to live with the fear of not being able to go out unarmed? When was the last time she were outside without you asking her hundreds of questions before or after?" Genji said angrily and his hands were now clenched into fists too. I couldn't stand the tension between the two anymore. Without saying anything, I got up and left the canteen.
I went to the place Genji had shown me last night and tried to calm myself down after all this. I closed my eyes and let the cold wind blow through my hair. I enjoyed the absolute peace and felt like I was getting a little more carefree. "Hey Y/n, sorry about what just happened." I suddenly heard Genji say next to me. "I knew I would find you here...". I opened my eyes and looked at Genji, who was standing a few meters away from me and didn't seem to know what to do. "I understand if you want me to go, but is there any chance I could keep you company?" he asked cautiously, to which I nodded slightly. He slowly and carefully sat down next to me. "Listen, I'm sorry it all turned out like this. I just wanted you to finally be able to do what you want." said Genji in a soft voice. I sighed. "Hanzo never treated me badly, he just knew what enemies he had and he also knew that Shimada Castle was the safest place for me to be. Although it doesn't seem like it to you, I think Hanzo just wanted to do everything he could, that nothing will happen to me." I said and stared into the distance. "I wanted that..." I suddenly heard Hanzo say. Startled, I looked at him and saw him looking at me with an apologetic look. "I'll leave you alone for a moment..." Genji said a bit sad and left. Hanzo came over and sat across from me. "All I wanted was to know that you were safe. Even if I often didn't follow the right paths to do so." he said, giving me a sad smile. "I hope you can forgive me for what just happened in the canteen. I promise it won't happen again." he said, leaning in to brush a strand of my hair away from my face, with his hand. Without saying anything, I looked into his eyes. Hanzo didn't break eye contact but placed a hand on my cheek. "All I want is for you to be okay." said Hanzo softly.
