I smiled at Hanzo, his words calming me and making me feel warm inside. "I don't want to interrupt, but Morrison is waiting for you.." Genji suddenly said as he came back. Not wanting to keep the Overwatch commander waiting, I got up immediately and walked a little ahead of Hanzo. Genji walked towards him and when I turned around, I saw Genji put a hand on Hanzo's left shoulder as he passed. "It seems like you're winning, brother." I heard Genji say to him. Hanzo looked down thoughtfully until he seemed to realize what Genji was talking about. With a mixed look of anger and shock on his face, he looked at Genji. Without either of them saying anything else, they went their separate ways. Hanzo came to me while Genji walked away from us as it seemed he had something else to do. "Come on, we don't want to keep Morrison waiting." Hanzo said putting a hand on my back to lead me towards the office. Still musing about what Genji had just meant. I walked to the commander with Hanzo at my side.
When we entered the office, Morrison was already waiting for us and greeted us with a faint smile. "Mr. and Mrs. Shimada, it's nice to finally meet you in person. Have a seat." he said, pointing to two free chairs in front of him. Hanzo and I sat down and I felt my tension rising.
"I know we certainly didn't have the best start when we sent Genji to spy on you. But we had our reasons. But ultimately, you also have us to thank for being here, and you are doing well under the given circumstances." Morrison began to talk while pacing back and forth with his arms crossed. The stern tone in his voice made me more nervous, which Hanzo apparently noticed. He glanced at me and gave me a quick reassuring smile. "Based on the available data, I have an offer for both of you." Morrison continued, pausing to look at both of us. "I want you to be a part of Overwatch, to support us on missions and to support us in our projects.". Hanzo and I looked at each other thoughtfully. We knew upfront that if we went with Genji that day, we would have to join Overwatch. But now that we've been confronted with it, it felt like a whole different thing. Hanzo shifted his gaze to Morrison. "We're joining Overwatch on one condition." Hanzo said formally and sat up a little straighter. "And which would be?" Morrison asked expectantly. "I don't want to put Y/n in any danger, I will go on missions but I would prefer Y/n to help out Dr. Ziegler here at the base." I looked at him confused. "I'm sure she will be of great help to you and she can safely do her work in the hospital.". Morrison appeared to be considering going after Hanzo's terms. "That doesn't sound too bad, but I also know that Y/n is a really good fighter." Morrison said, looking at me as he paused for a moment. "You could almost say she learned from the best." he continued and gave Hanzo a meaningful look.
I kind of didn't understand why Hanzo didn't want me to go on missions after training me so well. But I appreciated his concern for me. And only now did I realize how Hanzo had changed in the last few days, he seemed less closed and yet I wasn't sure how to interpret his behavior. He seemed concerned as if he only wanted the best for me, but I still felt partially excluded from his life. I would love to know what he was really thinking about me. Hanzo pulled me out of my thoughts as he answered Morrison's question. "Y/n may be well trained, but why risk her safety when she can support you just as well here?". Now I noticed how tense Hanzo was. Morrison seemed thoughtful about Hanzo's offer, and he seemed to understand Hanzo's concern. "Okay, Y/n can stay here at the base and help out Dr. Ziegler with her patients.". Hanzo seemed relieved by Morrison's answer, and seemed a little more reassured. "You are now officially a part of Overwatch. You can stay here with us, but you must leave the Shimada clan behind." Morrison continued gravely. Hanzo seemed a little dismayed by this statement but did not comment further.
"I understand, there's just one more thing I need to do in Hanamura. Feel free to send someone along if you don't trust me." said Hanzo, whereupon Morrison gave him a questioning look. "You may go to Hanamura, but I'll go with you. Just in case.". Hanzo agreed and just moments later, the two made their way to Hanamura. Hanzo didn't really say goodbye, which hurt me a lot. But I didn't want to think about that because Genji was already waiting for me to train with me. It had been ages since Genji and I had trained together. "You're finally here." said Genji happily. I smiled at him as he seemed very pleased that I was there. Training with Genji felt good and made me reminisce about our time together in the past. I realized that I couldn't do as much training as I would like because my wound was still very painful.
We trained for like 15 minutes, until I took a wrong step and a sharp pain went through my whole body. I gasped for air and pressed my hand on my wound. Genji dropped his katana and came running to me. He pulled my shirt up a little to look at my bandages. "Damned." He said, pulling my shirt back down. Without saying anything else, he picked me up and carried me through the entire base to the infirmary.
