Snow began to gently fall down Nikki's cottage windows, and the inside of the house was chilly. I walked into the living room, wood floor creaking as I walked. The glass became frosted from the inside, and I wiped it to see outside.

"Are you hungry?" My newfound friend asked from behind me. The smell of warm muffins drifted in from the kitchen, and a smile crept onto my face. When I didn't answer she continued temptingly, "They're blueberries!"

"Sounds delightful," I brushed my hair as she set the table and placed a steaming-hot treat onto my plate. Nikki's pink hair was draped on top of her dress, and in comparison I was an absolute mess. This of course did not bother her, and I hungrily gobbled down my food.

"Relax, there are plenty more where that came from!" She chuckled, "I love baking so much. If the theory about the past is correct, do you think I was a baker?" Nihachu thoughtfully asked, "I would've made a good one. I can just picture it now... the whole town gathering around in the mornings for them, people rushing to get a bite. I'll smile and say just what I said to you a moment ago, and little children will cheer."

"That's sweet," I said, "You probably were. I think you were a fierce warrior too, I mean, how could you learn all those moves so easily? When the nuke went off or whatever, I know that you didn't go down without a fight."

"Mhm," She said, then in a more hushed tone whispered, "you make death sound so comforting. If only there was just a tiny sliver of memory, or any evidence."

"We can create new memories!" I said firmly, "and consider this a fresh slate! No matter how wonderful it all was back then, this is now. We'll let nothing get in our way! Nikki and Y/n forever!"

"Promise?" Her eyes widened, "Promises you can keep?"

"Of course."

"It's almost like I heard that somewhere," She began to pace back and forth across the floor, her small feet gliding gracefully. Everything she was delicate, almost like a princess of some kind. Underneath it all I sensed something else though, hurt. Loneliness, desolation, even.

"Is... is everything all right?" I put my hand on her shoulder and she jumped, startled. A confused look washed over my face, and Nikki simply shook her head.

Finally she caved in and spoke, saying softly, "There was a man yesterday. He had brown, kinda curly hair. Must've been a foot taller than me! Six something, as I'm five foot five. It's almost like I was triggered, and I swear this weird amnesia cleared for a second. Crying, I heard. Mine. Do you think he could be dangerous?"

"Wilbur?" I was taken aback, "Are you sure it wasn't something else that caused it? I swear he wouldn't hurt a fly!"

"Wilbur. Wilbur. Wilbur!" Tear streaks began to run down Nihachu, her entire personality changing. She sat onto the ground and stared at her hands, her tears falling onto them. She clenched her fist, and stood back up again. I said nothing, and finally she spoke, "I am going to rest. I feel dizzy-" She wobbled, and I caught her just in time. Clearly whatever this was drained her. Had she and Wilbur Soot known each other?
