MELANIE BRIAR is the exact opposite of what she appears as. She looks like a teenage girl, blonde and innocent. A girl who belonged on the cheerleading squad or on a stage with a prom queen sash, and a sparkling tiara on her head with her quarterback boyfriend beside her. The girl with a million friends who all worshipped her and hated her at the exact same time. The girl that everyone either wanted to date or wanted to be. Melanie Briar was supposed to be that girl. She would've been until God decided to destroy his magnificent creation, bringing hell to earth. He created a virus that raised the dead and made them destroy everything in their path. The world went from normal, everyday life to spending every second fighting for survival.

Melanie Briar was now the exact opposite of what she was supposed to be. She was a teenage girl, blonde and sinful. She was a girl who had gotten to used to the feeling of someone else's blood on her skin. It was so much blood that sometimes she couldn't tell if it was hers or someone else's. She was a girl who had watched the life drain from someone's eyes as she killed them and enjoyed it. She was the girl who made sure to keep herself away from anyone, to not get attached, because getting attached means letting your guard down. And letting your guard down means getting killed.

Melanie Briar had a terrifying past. As soon as the world changed, her father took control of the family. His military background made him able to keep his family safe and protected. His daughters had been trained from an early age to use guns. His oldest, Margot, was one of the best sharpshooters he had ever seen, and his youngest, Melanie, could throw a knife from fifty feet away and get them right in the eye. Them being the dead. The dead ruled the planet and killed anyone that was in their path, including Melanie's parents. Melanie was thirteen and Margot was twenty when they watched the life leave their parents eyes. Melanie watched from a store window as the dead ripped her parents apart, their screams echoing through the store and their blood pouring out like a waterfall. Melanie watched as their organs were torn out and feasted on. And Melanie had to live with the image of her dead parents coming after her with dead eyes and chomping teeth. Melanie was forced to put a knife in their mother's eye while Margot put a bullet in their father's brain.
